Every one overlooked the very first mistake “On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted.” It was adopted on a 12-0 vote (New York abstained). John Adams famous letter to Abagail referred to this date. It was signed on July 4, because it took Jefferson that long to rewrite it after all of the changes.
