Here's our rig:

That looks nice. Did you ever consider a trailer for the car? I'm curious about the pros and cons for such.

We had a pop up which we towed with our Suburban (got about 12 MPG with that rig instead of the 8 we get with our motorhome). We enjoyed the pop up, but it took several hours to set up and break down camp so it wasn’t good for touring where you only stay in one spot for a day or two.

If we towed a decent sized travel trailer with our Suburban, we’d probably get about the same MPG as we do with the motorhome. Then once you get to your spot, you’d have to do your day trips with the Suburban at 15 MPG instead of the Outback at about 30 MPG.

Is that what you mean?

We wouldn’t tow a trailer behind our present rig (motorhome+car). We’re over 50’ long with the motorhome and car as it is. Getting in and out of gas stations can often be an adventure as turn around space is limited at times.
