FactCheck: Obama's Work Claim

Obama’s latest ad repeats an often-stated claim, saying he "worked his way through college and Harvard Law.” We know Obama took out loans to get himself through school. But the campaign provided information on just two jobs Obama had in those years, and they were both in the summer.

The ad also says he "passed a law to move people from welfare to work, slashed the rolls by 80 percent." Actually, the Illinois law was a required follow-up to the 1996 federal welfare reform law worked out by President Clinton and the Republican Congress. Welfare rolls did go down by nearly as much as the ad says, but Obama can't claim sole credit.

Obama's experience is so flimsy he has to lie about it all.

...Obama was among five Senate sponsors of the measure...

Isn't there a difference between a sponsor of a bill and the author of a bill? I've heard it said that Obama has never authored any legislation at either the state or federal level. Comments were also stated that one of the federal bills he sponsored, he never attended any of the drafting meetings for the bill, but simply added his name after all the work was done by others. I think these things should also receive attention in the MSM...but that's not going to happen.

This fraud has been pampered his whole life. Never has such a lightweight been served by such a lenghty queue of servile supplicants. Has the MSM ever been more groveling than now? It’s as if we’re getting ready to get out the royal diadem and crown a High School Student Council President the Leader of the Free World. This is laughable. The best test of truth is ridicule and this empty suit doesn’t come close to passing. And a stinking lawyer at that!

In the real world, resume padding can get you fired. Obama doesn’t live in the real world.

I recently had a debate with a young lawyer who thinks Obama will save the world. When I pointed out that he had only 145 days of federal experience when he started his campaign and I didn't think the President of the United States should take the job hoping for on-the-job training, guess what this well-educated person's response was?

Their answer was: "Well, Neil Armstrong didn't have any moon walking experience when he landed on the moon!" I almost fell off my chair!

I went on to point out that Armstrong was a Navy test pilot with over 15 years experience and was an aviation engineer. Once accepted into the Astronaut program, he had another 7 years of training before he took that flight. He was as experienced a person as we could find for such a mission and that to compare his experience to Obama's was absolutely ludicrous.

The lawyer's reasoned response: "Oh."

I went home with a sinking feeling that we are doomed if educated people can be that stupid and marshal such flimsy support for why they pick such a person for President.

Almost everything the Obama’s campaign says about Obama are total lies. They falsify his relationships with Tony Rezko, George Soros, Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakan. They say nothing about his life for over 20 years after he graduated from college other than that he was a community organizer. They have him take credit for the welfare reform that was passed by Republicans in Congress and opposed and vetoed by the Clinton Administration before it was reluctantly signed right before the election. They cover up Obama’s relationships with leftists and Communists.
The MSM is even worse. They say they get tingles up and down their legs whenever they see Obama and fawn over him like schoolgirls before a pop star. Unfortunately, many voters are stupid enough to fall for this and want to remain ignorant about Obama.

Are you referring to this young lawyer in your tagline? BTW - I love it!

Chalk it up to a huge blind spot.

In some ways, Jesse Jackson would make a much more experienced and prepared candidate for the Oval Office. At least, Jesse is an “authentic” African-American, with the necessary street cred as an “oppressed minority”.

Obama is, and shall continue to be, for many, many years, an empty suit. Twenty years from now, he may be able to look back at videos of his younger self, and say, in a wry manner, “That kid’s got a lot to learn.”

Come back and talk to us, Barack, when you have had an epiphany, and see the wider world for what it is.

Gravitas. A word that was kicked around a lot eight years ago, but rarely heard any more.

Not really. I've had that tag line in place for several months now, but the lawyer run-in only happened two days ago. Glad you like it. Sadly, I do think it's fitting all too often.

"whenever they see Obama and fawn over him like schoolgirls before a pop star"

Based on Barry's latest decision to accept the Demon-Crat nomination in Mile High Stadium I am beginning to believe Obama believes he is a pop star.

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. His being a lawyer, while significant, is the least of my worries. He’s a liberal and therein lies the pathology. To a liberal believing it true makes it true: “I believe it to be true; ergo, it’s true.” I’ve never seen as many credulous true believers as now. The late Malcolm Muggeridge was correct when he defined the age we live in as a “fathomless abyss of credulity.” I have a friend who scoffs when I say that the Dalai Bama’s academic achievements mean absolutely nothing to me. I suppose this should impress me but it doesn’t. After all, my liberal friend isn’t impressed with the academic achievements of Alito, Scalia and Chief Justice Roberts. Roberts also graduated with honors (with his BA in just three years at Harvard) while Scalia graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown, and this before the curriculum was dumbed down and grades inflated. (By the way, have you read Michelle Obama’s dissertation? I’ve taught ninth graders with a better command of English). I certainly share your alarm at the electorate though. But that’s the one man, one vote principle.

I would guess Niel Armstrong probably also had some experience with some moon-walking simulators. Not perfect, of course, since we didn't and still don't have technology for sustained reduced gravity, but I would guess he would at minimum have had some training with harnesses and some training in water tanks.

But that’s the one man, one vote principle.

When did the phrase "right to vote" enter the English lexicon? I'm certainly familiar with "No taxation without representation", but that would only seem to imply rights for those people who actually pay taxes; incidentally, it would also be consistent with having people's votes scaled by the taxes they paid (note that under the Constitution as originally written, states' representation was proportional to taxes paid).

Re: “Right to vote.” I’m unsure about the exact time frame that it came into general use. I do know that the founders were against any such concept, at least the overwhelming majority were against universal manhood suffrage. In fact, Washington regarded most people as inflammatory dolts. I know Jefferson spoke out for the rights of man, but he respected them at arms length at the very least. It’s scary to think that morons can have such power over us but in the main they’ve been right more often than wrong.
