Maybe any who do "get it" care only about their chances for re-election. Voters generally care less about truth and more about what makes them feel good. Politicians want to be able to say they did something about [insert emotional issue of the day here]. Telling constituents the solution lies with them—rather than with their elected officials—is unacceptable these days.

As is all too often the case, I lay the blame squarely on Amendment XIX.
