Our leaders are in carbon-cloud cuckoo land (Gasp...Is the tide starting to turn in the MSM?)

For a perfect example of what is meant by "gesture politics" - an empty pledge given solely for effect, which the politician has no hope of honouring - one could not do better than this week's commitment by the G8 leaders on how they want us to fight climate change.

The orthodox global-warming thesis, accepted by pretty well every politician in the Western world, but not by a growing number of scientists, is that, as CO2 levels in the atmosphere continue to rise, so too should global temperatures. Unless we can drastically reduce those CO2 levels, the world is thus threatened with catastrophe.

In the past year or two, however, evidence has been piling up to suggest that there may be a fundamental flaw in this theory. Even though atmospheric CO2 has continued to rise to levels not seen since the distant geological past, temperatures have not been following suit.

After 2000 the global temperature curve flattened out at a level significantly lower than the freak year 1998, and in recent months temperatures have dropped to levels not seen since the early 1980s.

Despite the best efforts of the global-warming lobby to keep the scare going, the northern hemisphere enjoyed its coldest winter for decades, and this summer has shown the curve sinking even lower.

WOW...even some MSM outlets are finally beginning to see the light. The Branch Algorians are getting ever more desperate to cover up the truth, but in this case, the truth will set us free. Each day mother sun stays blank of sunspots, and each day the North Pole is still covered in ice (regardless of the hyterical headlines of last week), Al and his band of zealots get louder and more shrill.

In the end, it will be the Chinese and Indians of all people, who will save us from ourselves. They collectively have no intention of reducing their CO2 emissions one iota, and for that I thank them. It will be very hard for Barabara Boxer and her friends in Congress to ask the American people to give up their way of life so the Chinese can build two new dirty coals plants a week.

I wish I were as optimistic! The voting majority of American Sheeple will march right along with the "Change we can believe in" doctrines, whatever they may be.

The London Telegraph has become one of my favorite papers as of late. I have actually seen some REAL, INVESTIGATIVE reporting from that paper. It’s sad when I have to go out of country to find such journalism, but it does exist.

The china oil implosion artcile came from them, and that is the not the first investigative article on oil prices and economy I’ve seen. Additionally, this is not the first GW or Anti-GW artcile I’ve seen from them either.

Here’s when an “empty gesture” is really important: when an actual act would be endlessly destructive.

"...CO2 has continued to rise to levels not seen since the distant geological past..." (emphasis added)

The very fact that there were as high or higher CO2 levels in the distant past would certainly suggest that human activity is not the sole cause and that even with our reduced carbon hair shirt climate change could occur anyway.

>>>>Even though atmospheric CO2 has continued to rise to levels not seen since the distant geological past, temperatures have not been following suit.

PBS Nova ran and episode this week devoted to "global DIMMING", caused by localized particulate matter in the atmosphere and which masks the true degree of CO2-induced warming.

I caught only the last 15 minutes, but it was enough to convince me that the enviro-nazis are going completely insane.

One "scientist" asserted that once we get rid of the particulate problem, global warming will really skyrocket to long-predicted levels and cause death, destruction, and CATASTROPHE! They even asserted that the "billions and billions of tons" of deep-sea methane will thaw out and cause huge releases of methane into the atmosphere, and "methane is 15 times denser than CO2".

So maybe we should leave those particulates in place?????

If I worked for PBS I would have been ashamed to broadcast that piece of crapola on the public airwaves.

I urge all to watch it, quite a hoot and probably de facto legal proof of onset insanity at PBS and Nova.

The only dimming I am aware of is the bulbs in these wackos heads that pass for brains. The enviriowackomarxist left is populated by more dim bulbs than bright ones, that is an undisputed fact.

Onset of insanity? Hell, they are end-stage insane.

localized particulate matter

Air particles absorb much more sunlight warmth than CO2 can but they have a net cooling effect because they induce the invisible water vapor in the air to condense into reflective water droplets forming clouds. The GWers really tip toe around the vapor vs. cloud thing because by influencing cloud formation we can actively manage Earth's surface temperature to be anything we want.

For the GWers, the worse possible solution to this imaginary problem is technology that allows the Joneses next door to continue their high life. GWers want to obstruct the Joneses from having a nicer house, a taller chimney, a greener lawn, and certainly a bigger SUV. Noooooooo!
