There were 5,000 movies made in this country last year. Most of them were independent ("indie") movies made with non-union actors. Most of these movies did not star Will Smith or Brad Pitt. The technology is rapidly evolving for a direct delivery system to consumers of digital movies.

What is going on in Hollywood right now is a circular firing squad taking place aboard the deck of the sinking Titanic. The dumb asses don't even see it.

For a non union actor to work a SAG show, he/she will be Taft-Hartley’d when he gets the part. After that, he’ll be a “must join” and will have to go down to SAG and pay his dues. SAG shows don’t like to cast non union actors because most times a fine is given to the Production Office because a non SAG actor was hired. There’s a form that has to be filled out and sent to SAG explaining why you cast the non union actor over a union actor. A non union AFTRA actor can work and get paid up to his first 30 days. After that, dues are withheld from his paycheck. Of course, the rules may have changes since I was in the business.

Which casting office is near your home?

Kinda reminds me of one of the baseball strikes, where the teams brought up the minor league players... and STILL filled the stands. Turns out people wanted to see baseball... not necessarily the “star” players.
Reminds me of when the Dallas Cowboy went on strike and called in the scabs... and the scabs were better!!! :D

sink faster, PLEASE!!! BTW, it sickened me that they made such a dramatic event like the Titanic disaster into a romance... (even worse.. starring Decapitated (dicaprio))..

The union actors should receive all the proceeds from a film. They are the reason for the sales. There should be no ongoing proceeds to producers that do not totally acrue from the sweat and tears of the actors. Actors are not hamburger flippers or assembly line operators. Actors are personalities. </sarc>

That was the term I was looking for: Taft-Hartley. The Crossroads of the World is almost 2 blocks away from where I live. The office is Casting Networks. The parking lot is filled with Kerry-Edwards (yes, until now...stupid losers) and Obama stickers.

That’s what he said in Get Smart? I’ll watch it then!

Too bad there won;t be a Get Smart 2. Steve Carrel’s contract stipulates that if the opening weekend was $40 million, then a sequel is a go.

BUT, it made $39.5 so it’s a no go...
