According to local media reports, N. Koreans claim that she was strolling along the shore and accidentally went into restricted military zone, where she was shot after being given a few warnings.
The resort is an enclosed area where tourists from South can be brought in and enjoy some scenic views. It is one of N. Korea's main cash-earning operation. However, its revenue has dropped significantly and they are barely maintaining its operation.

Whatever the North Korean version, if they even say anything, will be a complete lie.

Shot for being crazy, or drunk as a skunk? Did they bother to find out why she wandered there, before they shot her?
What a country!

I suspect so, too.
There could be more going on.
According to what I heard, the place is rather tightly controlled and tourists would not be able to wander off so casually.

Duh! That’s what happens when you shoot dead the tourists who bring money.

I don't have an MBA, but if they are already having a problem with declining revenue, shouldn't they make things nicer and stop shooting the people who are the revenue producers? < sarc>

The regime is terrified of a lone 50-something year old woman?
Sick.

Shooting your customers will cause that at times.

That 50-something year old woman was probably taller than the majority of North Korean soldiers, who have literally shrunk in size due to chronic malnutrition over the decades of so-called 'Juche' philosophy ('total self-reliance').
As for the Number One Juche-Bag (Comrade Chia Pet), he's doing just fine.

LOL, I really am a NW Arizona Granny.
N. Korea would not be a country that I would choose to visit.
Nothing wrong with a vacation in the good ole U.S.A.

I’ve been to 49 states and 35 foreign countries.
At this point I may go and drive the trans Canadian Highway but as for foreign travel that is about it.
Think I’ll go back and revisit all those states again.

A little while ago, a Freeper posted a series of secret video taped in NK by a traveler who wanted to document the hopelessness of NK on film.
He outright explained at several points during the 14-part series of how dangerous it is to commit any infraction of the rules as designated by NK. I have little doubt that any tourist would receive a similar warning.
There's more to this than we'll ever know.

Have not gone to Hawaii yet. Promised myself I’d only go if I could sail there and the opportunity hasn’t yet arisen.
Funny though. 57 states, and he went to Harvard.
