Years ago I was told that the PA turnpike was supposed to charge tolls only for as long as it took to pay off the bonds which paid for its construction. The lying politicians reneged and tolls are still charged decades after the bonds were paid off.

Is that true?

They said the same things about the tolls on the NY State Thruway, the Verrazno and the Triboro Bridges. Once a poll sets a tax, it's almost impossible to get it revoked.

Hey, we got lied to here in Ohio. In 1953 when the turnpike opened, we were told that it would be a toll road FOR ONLY 30 YEARS. Along comes 1983, and . . . guess what . . . well, we’re going to continue the tolls because blah, blah, blah. So, the Ohio Turnpike Commission and all of the politicians were a bunch of stinking liars.

And just when it looks like they’ve got too much money . . . hey, stupid Ohioans, we’re going to add a third lane . . . and just when it looks like they’ve got too much money . . . hey stupid Ohions, we’re going to post brand new expensive road signs EVERY 10TH OF A MILE to let you know what highway you’re on and what intricate 10th of a mile you’ve passed.

They’re a bunch of stinking liars . . . and we keep voting them in . . . and have you noticed that they NEVER are under budget and willing to rebate the taxpayers??????????

Actually now they are talking of turning the Interstate 80 from a free highway into a toll road to pay for ‘maintenance’. Watch the video, it’s a real eye opener.
