WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said on Sunday he used "poor phrasing" in a speech supporting Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel. "You know, the truth is that this was an example where we had some poor phrasing in the speech. And we immediately tried to correct the interpretation that was given," he said in an interview aired on Sunday on CNN's "Fareed Zakaria -- GPS." "The point we were simply making was, is that we don't want barbed wire running through Jerusalem, similar to the way it was prior to the '67 war, that it is possible for us to create a Jerusalem that is cohesive and coherent," Obama said.

I heard his speech. He was not using “poor phrasing” as it is beign called now. He used pandering. Poor phrasing suggests it was not intentional. He knew exactly what he was saying.

But then again, we could be finding out that Obama is Ted Baxter’s illegitimate son. It’s starting to look like that.

Yep. I assume he can learn, but NORMALLY, people do that before they become President. Heck, even ditzy actresses can appear intelligent, if they know their “craft”, and have good scripts. One of his biggest problems is the people behind him. They have no idea what ordinary Americans think.

Exactly! After all, what is worse: that he himself used "sloppy" language, or that his speechwriters inserted a clear statement that doesn't reflect his thinking, but he said it anyway.

when I’m doing a town hall meeting in some rural community, invariably, somebody will raise their hand and they’ll say, “When are we going to restore the respect that the world had for America?”

No surprise when the advance man finds some stooge and offers enticement to stand up and spew the prepared question. Like that's the major issue in the typical "rural community."
