(CNN) Longtime Washington talk-show host John McLaughlin is facing fire Monday for referring to Barack Obama as an "Oreo" during a segment on his Sunday political program, "The McLaughlin Group.
The veteran Washington journalist was discussing the recent comments from the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who was caught last week by an open microphone on Fox News saying the Illinois senator is "talking down to black people" as he campaigns for the White House. Those remarks were largely seen in reference to Obama's recent admonishment at a Chicago church of some black men who he said were not living up to their responsibilities as parents.
Referencing Jackson's comments, McLaughlin said Obama "fits the stereotype blacks once labeled as an Oreo a black on the outside, a white on the inside."

I think of Him as a Fig Newton...crusty and crumbly on the outside, mushy on the inside.
I wish it were true, but don’t think it is. Look at his past associations and gauge his likely appointments.

LOL
As long as McLaughlin said the comment in the context “...blacks once labeld as...” he has no reason to apologize. It is contextual. Remember, if words commonly used by one part of the population are off limits to another, then we have taken away a basic constitutional right from a segment of our people in effect rendering them as second class citizens.
McLaughlin got it reversed, insofar as Obama...
Is vanilla wafer okay to say?
I do not care for Mr. maclaughlin.
However, he did not CALL B. Hussein an Oreo.
He said that B. Hussein fits the stereotype of someone blacks once labeled an Oreo.
B. Hussein DOES fit that stereotype. Mr. McLaughlin’s remark was a statement of fact.
It is true that Obama is just as white as he is black. I can make that claim, backed by science, and it will somehow be labeled as racist.
So, responsibility is "white" and irresponsibility is supposed to be "black"?
Pretty racist in my book.
WRONG!
I have only ever heard blacks use that term, which is precisely what McLaughlin said.
His experience is wafer thin, and his policies are vanilla socialism, so it's accurate at least.
How about Pecan Sandie?
But he used a term that only Blacks are allowed to use. It’s like “Nappy Headed HO”. It can be said at Rutgers in the Linguistic Antropology Class.(IT IS!)But not by Imus.

Might be pushing the limits there,
Been laughing for 3 days folks ,can’t take no more, gotta take a break and get back to the chickens.
Did somebody say, "wafer thin?"
I would say that Hussein Obama is more of a fig newton—straight-edged on the outside; fruity on the inside.
Uh, if Jackson was upset that Obama lectured blacks to imnprove themselves, it would be a perfectly good guess that Jackson was viewing Obama as an “oreo” - a black taking certain positions in order to find favor with whites. Mclaughlin’s use of the term was not racist, unless we are now saying the word “oreo” itself cannot be used.
Every time the media goes off on a racially biased witch hunt over some imagined slight (on Obama’s behalf) , it tends to remind people of the gulags in the old USSR, whose inmates were sent there by the thought and speech police.
Do we, as a nation, want to spend four years tensely monitoring every word before speaking? If the answer is “no”, then Obama’s not the guy to vote for.
Attention race-hustlers and PC Nazis: You are overplaying your hand. With every fradulent attempt at making believe you are offended at a phantom slight, you bring the Obama candidacy closer to complete oblivion. Please continue....
I’ve noticed an increasing amont of ‘Freepers’ bashing McCain and going out of their way to defend Obama. If someone objects, they get bashed.
There was a thread about Bush being bashed by cartoonists and called a chimp, and when someone on here posted monkey pictures of Obama in return, they were promptly deleted.
What’s going on here?
His comment was about other peoples comments.
All animals are equal. Some are more equal than others.
I guess we aren’t supposed to point out that some race hustlers use terms like “uncle tom” to slur black conservatives as well.
He is so old, I bet he doesn't care what anyone says. And yes, I don't agree with him often, I just love watching his show.
McLaughlin: Question three! What needs to be done to get us off of oil? Eleanor?
Clift: Well John, we need to look at...
McLaughlin: Wrong! Next question.
Is it just me or is McLaughlin long past his ‘sell by’ date?
42,000 matches for “white bread” and mccain
I don’t recall any headlines about this racist term being used to slur the GOP candidate. Let alone talk of firings.
The monkey pictures have to be deleted to avoid the appearance of racism. It would be a mischaracterization but is easily screencapped.
The gag photo of Fonda and Kerry was posted only for a few minutes before being deleted (and it was posted to a thread about the legit photo) but trolls used it to dispute the authenticity of the legitimate photo (cause confusion in the voting public’s mind).
Who is defending Obama?
But it would be OK for Obama to refer to McCain as a “cracker.”

BELE - It is obvious to the most simpleminded that Lokai is of an inferior breed."
SPOCK - The obvious visual evidence, Commissioner, is that he is of the same breed as yourself."
BELE - Are you blind, Commander Spock? Well, look at me. Look at me!"
SPOCK - You're black on one side and white on the other."
BELE - I am black on the right side."
SPOCK - I fail to see the significant difference."
BELE - Lokai is white on the right side. All of his people are white on the right side."
PC is becoming so 20th Century. Forget these “racist slights” they are just so much race card power grabs. For such people I only say, “I Fa*t in your general direction.”
Great episode! A little ham handed, but one of the best of the old series.
Good One!
Bele was right, Loki was trash. Geez, all you had to do was take a good look at them to see it for yourself.
Possibly, but if you can find one with nuts that can be taken off, it would be fine.
I find him amusing, as well. And from what I did watch during Primary Season, I don’t think he dug Barry and “Mee-chelle” very much and leaned more towards Mrs. Clinton.
It was only the myth of his being a post-racial candidate that got him taken seriously. Every time they bring up race, they produce more resentment. I want the Symbionese Liberation couple to carry "No Justice No Peace" signs while picketing an Italian pizza parlor.
