Infamous Kansas church: Tony Snow burns in hell

A Kansas church well-known for its protests at the funerals of fallen American soldiers plans to picket at this week's funeral of former Press Secretary Tony Snow, declaring that Snow is "a very bad monkey" who is "now burning in hell."

"He had a platform, he was given some small talent by his Creator. He was an unfaithful steward, and is now residing in hell," says a schedule on the website of the Westboro Baptist Church.

"Each opportunity he had to faithfully report what the servants at WBC had to tell this country/world, Tony Snow besmirched and vilified the words of God and the people of God. Thereby being a party to the crime of passing laws to make the preaching of the gospel to this adulterous and sinful generation [equals] criminal activity. That is a very bad monkey!"

The announcement goes on to quote a variety of biblical verses concerning "scribes," and closes by stating: "You see there is nothing worse than a scribe who has gone away from their primary duty to faithfully report the facts as they ARE! And how appropriate that this brute, vain beast of a brat was raised Catholic, but then determined like his forefathers that oops! he'd rather be a filthy Episcopalian instead. God hates Tony Snow, and that is why he is now burning in hell."

Are you serious? Many threads about radical groups have been posted on FR in the past. Code Pink is just one and yet some how you determine this one is different. This radical group deserves all the negative publicity it can get. Their actions need no comment. They speak for themselves. You should be more concerned about their attempt to disrupt the service the Snow family obviously does not deserve instead of focusing on trying to kill the messenger.

The Phelps crew is a cowardly bunch. Whenever you see them protesting, invariably there are police in close proximity to them. Most people think that the police are there to keep the Phelps protesters away from the ceremony, and that may be the purpose that the police had in mind. But on occasions where the police have been pulled in closer to the funeral, the Phelps crowd tend not to show up. They prefer to do their marching separate from the funeral with police near them and the crowd far away. Remove that separation and they tend not to show up. Coincidence? Or cowardice?

I salute you. Remember though that Christ admonished us to love our enemies. Certainly the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. And honestly I am not very successful at it. These people are IMHO misguided and lost. While intervention is appropriate to prevent them from hurting innocents, we should not forget to pray for their redemption.
