I lost respect for cops a long time ago when they started to be used by the state as tax collectors. Ever been on the interstate highway system on Labor Day or 4th of July weekend? Giving tickets to out-of staters even when they’re not speeding is a favorite passtime for cops (they know out-of-staters will never be able to show up in court). The traffic system is the most rife of conflicts of interest, with the money shaken down from you used to pay the cops, prosecutor, and judges, where you are guilty until proven innocent (the cop’s word is enough evidence to pronounce you guilty). Until this system is reformed, and ticket quotas no longer be required of cops, I will have nothing but contempt for all cops, even if only some of them abuse their power. I am sorry if this offends cops or cop families on this thread, but this is the truth.

I'm with you, man! Back in January, I had a Frederick County deputy pull me over after I passed by him while he was making a u-turn. Not having his radar out, he claimed that I had "blown by him" and that he had estimated my speed by looking down at his own odometer. He was a real jerk and tried to goad me into a confrontation. He utlimately gave me a speeding ticket even though he could not tell me exactly how fast I was going.

Incensed, I refused to pay the ticket, hired a good traffic lawyer, went to court, and got it thrown out. While testifying against me, the deputy told two outright lies, but the judge (who had her own liberal issues but could not find me guilty because of the law, even though she said she disagreed with it!) told him it wasn't enough.

Ever since then, I have had ZERO respect for county deputies, town cops, and even state troopers.
