Immigrants infected with HIV may no longer be banned from living in the U.S. for the first time in more than 20 years.
A $50 billion Senate bill (SB 2731) intended to combat AIDS in Africa and other impoverished areas may effectively repeal a 1987 ban prohibiting travel and immigration for people infected with HIV. The U.S. is one of several countries to have such a rule, including Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Russia, the Associated Press reports.
Supporters of the proposal say the policy is dated and must be eliminated. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, said even China has lifted its ban against travelers with the disease.
"[It's] time to move beyond an antiquated, knee-jerk reaction" to HIV-infected people, Kerry said. "There's no excuse for a law that stigmatizes a particular disease."
He said even immigrants with avian flu or Ebola virus have a smoother path to citizenship than those with HIV.

There can be no other reason for allowing people with comminicable disease in amongst our Citizens.
We are living in the age of insanity.
The Naushon Island AIDS Hospice.
If Obama becomes POTUS, expect headlines like this every day.
Did Lurch personally offer to pay for their medical care while they are here, or is that up to us “little people” who actually pay taxes?
Lepers, what about the lepers?
Did Lurch really want to send $50 BILLION of our money to Africa??
We must be because sometimes I feel like I'm going insane
We must be short on Malaria and Dengue fever too... Quick! Open the floodgates...
But he will spend your money for his projects!
Has this bill been passed and signed yet? Hadn’t heard of it.
This is risky and expensive. Kerry and the Democrats will pander to anyone anytime.
lets note forget this is the same man that told us what a hero he was during the vietnam war but yet came back to America and lead war protest marches and if i remember correctly burned the flag. (correct me if i am wrong on that account) but it seems to me that i remember that story from when i lived in mass and he was running for office.
>> “[It’s] time to move beyond an antiquated, knee-jerk reaction” to HIV-infected people, Kerry said. “There’s no excuse for a law that stigmatizes a particular disease.”
Are we really stigmatizing a particular disease? Are the HIV-infected treated any differently than others with fatal communicable diseases? I think not.
H
Kerry and Kennedy. How did we get so lucky here in MA?
>>>>Lurch doesn’t pay taxes like the little people, he hides his wealth in trust funds <<<<<
He blew his trust fund a long time ago.
It’s Theresa’s money.
Maybe because you either die or heal by the time any citizenship question comes up for people suffering from those two diseases. Ebola can kill in days and the flu in either days from the primary disease or a couple of weeks from secondary lung infections. AIDS continues for years.
Maybe Lurch wanted to, but Bush actually did.
This clearly shows the government doesn’t care about us.
This disease has been used for so long now as a political and social weapon by the left that any serious discussion of why this disease is so rampant and who is overwhelmingly responsible for spreading it is nearly impossible.
Who knew that our government’s Visa Lottery for underrepresented groups of people also included underrepresented diseases?
“Kerry said. “There’s no excuse for a law that stigmatizes a particular disease.”
And, just how do you stigmatize a disease? By trying to contain its spread maybe, and trying to eradicate it?
********************
Is "government" supposed to care about us?
Senators say: "Social Security is going broke."
Senate solution: Shamnesty; allow 20 - 30 million illegals to draw Social Security benefits even they have not paid into the program.
Politicians say: "Too many Americans do not have health care."
Senate solution: Pass programs to provide free health care to illegal aliens and allow more millions of terminally infected aliens to immigrate, even though everyone knows they will not be able to work and that taxpayers will have to support them and pay for their very costly AIDS medicines and ongoing health care.
Congress no longer even tries to pretend they are representing the citizens and legal voters of America. They have stolen and given away so much taxpayer money that they don't even consider the immorality of their actions and the damage they are doing to America.
It is time for a BIG change in our government and not the kind Obama or McCain are talking about.
And who will pay?
Thanks to Mitt Romney, all Americans will pay.

RINO Romney, darling of the Democrats, surrounded by Sen. Kennedy and other beaming Democrats,
who admire their personally owned, trained, and docile, pandering RINO-Governor Romney
who delighted them as he install fascist-socialist HillaryCARE without allowng a single vote by a single citizen.
Sen. John Kerry to Don Imus on RomneyCARE=HillaryCARE: "I like this health care bill".
Sen. Hillary Clinton on RomneyCARE=HillaryCARE: "To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."
That doesn’t sound like the John F’n Kerry (who served in Viet Nam) that I knew. /s
Honestly what U.S. voter would support this?
Kerry: Anything to infect the US.
Not sure....I think this is being added into Bush’s aids package
Amazing how U.S. taxpayers spend $200 billion already on HIV/AIDS while hearing now that will include welcomed infected HIV immigrants but yet John Kerry still remains a weak Killer T-cell in the war on terrorism and has not supported our troops mission in Iraq.
Not in terms of being our nanny. However they’re supposed to look out for law and order and our safety.
They’re more interested in going after some pencil-neck geeky white guy who’s practicing Mormonism 1800’s style than they are after the street gangs who are creating havoc all over America.
What does that have to do with the subject of this thread?
“The U.S. is one of several countries to have such a rule, including Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Russia, the Associated Press reports.”
The last sane countries in the world?
I couldn't agree more I've held back from posting what I would really like to say about this, lest I be banned, but you have come pretty close.
....said the haughty senator who has never been exposed to or had a relative die from a contagious disease brought into America by unquarantined foreigners.
Liberals tearing down this country piece by piece.. just so they can look and feel good.
...either that or other diseases are gaining in prevalence over HIV. Have to maintain the appropriate percentages and quotas.
Is there any possible way that both McCain and Obama could lose the election?
To a certain extent, no, but they’re not supposed to deliberately harm us either.
Notice he said China lifted ban on travellers (though I can’t imagine an immigrant to China.) I don’t have a real problem with that, but immigrants, once here, will be serviced by our health care system. No matter whose model is used, current, McCain’s, of the haloed one’s,that immigrant’s care will be paid bu you and me.
“once here, will be serviced by our health care system.”
Yes and does that always happen in other countries when we are always crapped on around the world?
Don't know about that, but if either one of them wins we lose.
Yet another reason for the patriots in this country to get plenty of tar and strong rope and head to D.C.
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, said even China has lifted its ban against travelers with the disease.
So let them travel to China. If Kerry wants to use China as a model of immigration policy, he should go there without a visa and see what happens.
Yup, take a walk in Boston and you’ll see plenty of them. Not much thinking going on here...Most of the blame goes to the many institutions of higher enstupification that we have here.
“Honestly what U.S. voter would support this? “
I hate to burst your bubbles while everyone is on the Kerry slap fest, but Pres. Bush’s administration was the first to ask for including HIV entrants.
Bush — ‘King’ of AIDS Immigration?

An immigration activist is questioning the White House decision to give foreign nationals with HIV/AIDS a special waiver to obtain short-term visas to enter the country.
At a recent White House press briefing, Press Secretary Dana Perino was asked if President Bush agrees with a call by Senators John Kerry (D-Massachusetts) and Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) for the lifting of a ban on immigration into the U.S. for those who have HIV or AIDS.
Perino said the president has directed the Secretary of State to request that the Secretary of Homeland Security initiate a rulemaking to propose a categorical waiver for HIV-positive people seeking to enter the United States on short-term visas, which will provide a more streamlined process.
