THE BIG FREEZE

Why had the rain turned white? Startled millionaires wintering in their baronial mansions in West Palm Beach, Fla., peered closer last week at the miracle that was falling from the skies and discovered—could it be?—yes, the substance was snow, the first ever reported there. Since mid-November, pedestrians in Dallas, unaccustomed to such hazards, have been slipping on sleet-slicked sidewalks. Meanwhile, a series of blizzards has smothered Buffalo this winter with an astonishing 126.6 in. of snow.

From the Dakotas and Minnesota, across the icy Great Lakes of the Middle West and down the Eastern seaboard to shivering Florida, the winter of 1976-77 is already one of the coldest since the U.S. began keeping weather statistics—and the worst may be yet to come. If February roars like January, this winter could be the coldest ever recorded for much of the U.S.—the great winter that millions of Americans will be telling their grandchildren about decades from now.

If anyone has a hosting service, it would be a good idea to data mine stories such as the one above to remind the MSM about the folly of such yellow journalism.

Since mid-November, pedestrians in Dallas New Years eve we had a sleet storm that covered everything in ice; been at a girlfriends house out in the country, driving back that morning was one of the most beautiful and memorable sights I ever saw with clear skies and sun shining through ice like crystals.

The winter that is hurting the economy is also bringing suffering and tragedy to countless Americans.

At least in 1977, "Time" magazine got it right: Global Cooling is bad, Global Warming is good. Maybe in 20 more years, they'll figure out that global climate change isn't a man-made phenomenon.

Well, maybe they'll figure it out.

Great find, by the way!

How could Al Gore be wrong? He just seems so trustworthy...

I remember that winter. We had just moved into a house with semi-basement (4 feet below ground, the rest above) and a driveway that dropped below ground level to get into the garage. The driveway had retaining walls on each side and was over 20 feet wide and at least 30 feet from the street to the house. Stinking thing drifted level. I was 7, and had a blast, Dad was less than thrilled, as both cars were in the garage...

There were a few winters when I was older that made that driveway (fun as it was on bikes, etc...) a real pain.
