Fury as Park Built on Kosovo Church Remains

16 July 2008 Gjakova _ The UN authorities in Kosovo have pledged to hold talks with council officials in Gjakova after it emerged a park is being built over the remains of a Serbian Orthodox Church.

Local Serb radio KIM found that the construction of the park in Gjakova (known in Serbian as Djakovica), an overwhelmingly ethnic Albanian town in western Kosovo, is now in its final stages.

A metre of soil was placed on top of the church’s foundations and trees and flowers planted over it. Some 20 workers from the Bala construction company were finishing work at the park on Wednesday, and building pedestrian paths.

The municipality chief Pal Lekaj was unavailable for comments as he is on a trip to Albania.

Officials from the Serbian Orthodox Church have sent letters of protests to local and international authorities “to stop the illegal works.”

“If Gjakova municipality had any objections on the ownership it would be logical to solve it at the court of law. However, they acted as an outlaw and took the property of the Serbian Church, turning it into something inappropriate,” said father Sava Janjic from the nearby Visoki Decani monastery.

He said that the European Union’s Commission for restoration of the churches in Kosovo had placed the church remains on the list for protection.

United Nations Mission in Kosovo spokesman Russell Geake said the world body’s authorities in Serbia’s former southern province are aware of the dispute.

“There is a law in Kosovo that regulates the protection of the cultural and historical heritage. The UN Kosovo chief will talk about this with Gjakova municipality leaders on his visit next week,” pledged Geake.

Can you imagine the shrieks and howls from the LSM if it was the other way around:”Horror, a muslim holy place is being desecrated...”

“More Clintonian and Clark legacy.”

I take it you haven’t noticed who has been calling the shots diplomatically for America the past 7+ years or who has decided to pay over $350,000,000.00 of taxpayers’ dollars to the Mohammedan, drug running, white slaving, organ trafficing KLA terrorist regime.

Yes, Bush has had his head up his A$$, but it pales compared to what Clinton did!!! I hope you are able to see that!

The view of a "a head up the *ss" of two men, presidents or not, is pretty much the same.

And for what? A statue with their name on it in Kosovo? A street named after them for five minutes until history spits on it? Favor with Allah?

I have noticed. But he did not bomb the Serbs or get this ball rolling. What he has done, as much as I disagree with it, does not compare to the Clintons.

Bush has taken the war, for the most part, to the Islamic Jihad terrorists and freed tens of millions in the process, kept America from another attack, destroyed AlQUIda and other groups ability to plan and carry out large operations, killed tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of them, and sent a message to terrorists around the world...despite his failings in Kosovo and Serbia.

Nothing remotely similar can be said of Clinton and his lackey Clark.

“...despite his failings in Kosovo and Serbia.”

Not just in Serbia and Kosovo. Among the legacies of the Bush Administration are the smoking ruins of eastern Christians churches from the Adriatic to the Iran border. Our foreign policy has turned a blind eye to the depredations of the Administration’s Mohammedan friends which have resulted in the near destruction of Christianity in the ME. Virtually all the native Christians have left Israel. In Lebanon their future is dark. In Jordan they are nearly extinct. In Egypt the Copts are under constant terror from the government. In Iraq they are being jammed into a sort of dhimmitude beyond that practiced even by the Ottomans. The Administration’s friends there, JH, have enacted a constitution, with our approval and praise, enshrining the ROP and have proceeded to kill bishops and priests and laymen and impose the veil of Christian women. This Administration’s best friends in the ME, the Saudis, still forbid owning a bible or to practice The Faith, let alone to build a church. And do you know the one place in the ME, outside of perhaps for now Lebanon, where Christians are truly safe? Syria! That’s where the Iraqi Christians are going because we won’t let them in here lest we offend the practitioners of TROP.

Clinton was an evil man who did incalculable damage to this country. But he hasn’t been presiding over our foreign policy for the past 7+ years, Bush has and it is he who is responsible for those policies and it is he who deserves the praise and the condemnation for it.

I’m no supporter of Clinton. I think he was and is a demon possessed egomaniac who seriously damaged this country...but I disagree. Bush’s policies east of the Adriatic have been a disaster for eastern Christians beyond anything Clinton is responsible for, the bombing of Serbia to the contrary notwithstanding.

“I guess you then were opposed to the war against the Taliban and Saddam?”

Where do you get that idea from what I have posted? Does support of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq mean one has signed onto the destruction of Eastern Christianity?

By the way, I have been opposed to the way the War in Iraq was conducted from the day after we rolled into Baghdad to the beginning of the surge. Since the Vietnam war I have been of the opinion that when we go to war, the enemy should be crushed and the will of the enemy populace to resist utterly destroyed as soon as possible. I am, however, known to be a mean old man.

Agreed 1000%. For example...not one Marine should have been sent into Fallujah. We lost over 100 there. IMHO, we should have surrounded the place with steel, offered 72 hours for anyone who could get out to do so, through prepared places in our lines, and then absolutely leveled the place with arc light type bombing.

We need to make examples of any place that harbors and supports these animal enemies. Then level what is left and soak the ground in pig fat and salt when we are done and use the able bodied men and boys to build a new "Fallujah" with wide streets and clear lanes of fire.

As to the terrible plight of our brothers and sisters in these areas. I will not place all of the blame at Bush's feet. He has had a terrible fight with his own state department and the career lackeys placed their by the Clitnons, and much the same with the CIA.

In addition, most of the blame lies on the governments who are inacting such laws and rules. I will readily admit that we can, should, smd must use our position to better influence and direct these nations if they want our aid in repressing and stopping such persecutions. To the extent we have not done that I am in agreement with you.

At the same time not taking one iota away from the good Bush has done in taking this fight to the enemy and destroying them.

I shudder to think of how much worse, by orders of magnitude, things would have been with either a Gore or Kerry...or will be with the Obamanation.

You may be mean, but you are also very perceptive! Anyway, standing up for what is right is considered mean by the delusional left and we all know what they stand for. ZERO

Yes, but unfortunately M7, more than a few on the Right also think that we should just suck it up & shut up -- and accept that "collateral damage" like this happens on our way to meeting our "global strategic objectives" (whatever the hell THAT'S supposed to mean).

Albanians couldn't level it all in one attempt, so they kept going.

First they burned it, then they bombed it in the photos above, finally they bombed it again 5 years later until it was complete rumble. And now they have renamed the town and are turning consecrated Christian Holy Ground into "a park" for Muslims. And we rewarded the Albanians with "independence" for these efforts in "building democracy". Makes me sick to my stomach!
