The UK has officially ratified the European Union's Lisbon Treaty.
The documents were deposited with the Italian foreign affairs ministry in Rome on Wednesday.
The move came despite doubts over its future after the "no" vote in the Irish referendum. All EU states must ratify the treaty for it to come into force.
Me too.
I just don’t understand why a once great country, a country that brought civilization to 1/3 of the world allow this.
They have the socialist nanny state hate their culture disease. Not to mention a large portion of them hate the US. EUtopia! Idiots have signed away their sovereignty without a shot being fired. Germany and to a lesser extent france has achieved what no wars against the brits have, and the silly limeys eat it up. They are not the same brits as WW2,we as Americans need to realize that. We can stand alone and must stay vigilant.We need to dissolve NATO and let Russians punch the euros around for a bit and maybe they will wake up,aww who am I kidding they love commies,che guvara,chavez,etc.Euros like to bend over and take it.Thats what they are not not British,brits,welsh,or scots...they are euros.
not=now
typos....

Somebody educate me: what does the Lisbon Treay entail, that destroys the Kingdom?
Here’s a starter link:

No insult intended in the link name... I simply found this an interesting site.
well said
The EU is kind of like the United States in the early days, a bunch of sovereign entities banding together for the common good. Now look at our current situation in relation to the sovereignty of the states. Every EU treay seems to bring the European countries closer to our current state.
One slightly good bit is that this gives individual parliaments a bit more say in what happens at the EU level, but I still see it as generally consolidating the power.
In 50 years we’ll have the EU just like the US, with what were individual countries not being much more than administrative districts within the EU.
So, it’s rather like Colonial America under the old Articles of Confederation...
And each nation is like Texas surrendering their sovreignity to join the USA.
The last sentence in this post says that the Lisbon Treaty is not in effect unless all EU members ratify it. Ireland, among others, refused ratification, and is an EU member.
This information seems contradictory, as the treaty is not effective and cannot be, yet the UK has surrendered its sovereignty as a result of this ratification?
Seems more symbolism in a hope to renegotiate another EU treaty rather than anything else.
Somewhat. Some of what they are surrendering to is very socialist. Unanimous votes turn to majority, so France and Germany will totally dominate. It is like our system from the Civil War era without the Senate or Electoral College.
The liberals sure have done a number on the UK. The country is now raked with suicidal guilt over bringing civilization to 1/3 of the world and being white people.
According the BBC, all white people in the UK should kill themselves to save the planet and atone for all that British empire building. If you ever have watched a single hour of the BBC news, you’ll want to slit your wrists. Everything is about how much white people suck and how everything we do is evil and exploiting the world.
Britain, formerly Great Britain...
I don't think that England is switching to the Euro.
and I can see how some countries see the Euro as protection from devaluation of their old currency;
mean while Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain seem to be having problems which are not compatible with the problems experienced by northern Europe. Different problems different solutions. More problems. Euro go splat?
