A Shia imam in Saudi Arabia has declared his support for Iran and called on supporters to send money to the country to help it fight against the United States and Israel.
"We stand by Iran and we will do everything to support this country," said Shia imam Namer Baqer al-Namer during a sermon he gave at the Imam Hussein mosque in the eastern village al-Awamiya on Friday.
The sermon was published on the imam's Internet site on Tuesday.
A Saudi citizen, al-Namer said that he felt very close to Iran for his Shia belief and called on the faithful to follow him in doing the same.
"If the United States were to attack Iran, how should they respond?," he asked.
"They would definitely have the right to close the Straits of Hormuz, to destroy the Zionist entity [Israel] and to hit American bases and its interests present all over the world," he said.
The Shia imam then called on the faithful to support Tehran in every way, even by sending money or by supporting the regime through the media, and by defending its right to continue with its nuclear programme.
"I do this not to defend Iran, but to defend the truth," said al-Namer.
"America wants to humiliate the world and to be the only one to have the force to lead humanity."
The majority of Muslims in Saudi Arabia practice Wahhabism - the strain of Sunni Islam that is considered one of the religion's most conservative. However the country also has its own Shia minority.
Surely the author isn’t suggesting that our dear friends in Saudi Arabia might be indirectly financing a future nuclear attack on the U.S.? [end sarcasm]
This loser probably isn’t long for this world considering that the Saudis detest the Persian Iranians.
Ping.
