1:42 p.m.: SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. "Barack Obama will not be coming to us," a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. "I don't know why." Shortly before the same spokeswoman had announced a planned visit by Obama.

We all know the reason is that he loaths the military and wants to replace them with his own personal brown-shirted “civilian” internal SSecurity force.
I think he’s just tired of having so many people not cheer him on, so he’s going to stick with campaign rallies in front of foreigners who really like him.
At least until he can change over all the TVs to the left-wing propaganda stations and brainwash the troops into liking him.
The military has more important things to do than entertain this pretender
He's got to get back to the States and try and address the gains McCain is making and spin the oil issue somehow to make it look like he is responsible for the drop in price, like he is trying to spin the Iraq victory we are winning, despite his best efforts to the contrary in both areas.

Exactly. Our military by and large despises this papier mâché candidate and he knows it.
Oh it's because those active duty personnel love him is the reason.....[grin]
AOL Headlines have picture and headline Germans Cheer Obama’s Arrival. Yet AOL Straw Poll has Obama at 33 and McCain at 66...go figure.
I can’t authenticate this so take it with a grain of salt. It was shared by a poster at Hot Air. Check the thread titled, “Obamas Berlin rally off-limits for American diplomats.” I am also removing the Captain’s name.
Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to The War Zone. I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didnt say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the Americans back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedo m that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just dont understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

Obama found out there's a bowling alley at Ramstein.
Bowled there in a tournament during my tour in Germany many years ago. Ramstein has superb facilities, as did most AF bases. That fact has never been lost on this ex-Army air defender.
Rumor is a couple of airmen were planning to come dressed as Kingfish and Andy (from Amos n’ Andy.. ) to the planned speech/photo op.. with a sign that read HONKIFY US CALHOUN...
He couldn’t find anyone willing to fake a faint.
The MSM will give him another pass.
There’s a 6 lane on Landstuhl also, right near the gym and racketball court (played there in the early 90s).
The whole “Obama Does the World” tour is about Photo ops in front of adoring crowds and pix with world leaders to use later.
Obama isn’t really interested in the troops or photos with troops. Those photos would upset the moonbats.
Amen, amen, and amen. The enemy walks among us as they say.
"Obama refuses to meet with injured military personnel at Landstuhl hospital"
With Obama, it's all about him, and he knows that military folks see through his BS. Military folks develop excellent BS detectors, because they have to put up with so much of it.
He's much more comfortable hob-nobbing with Bill Ayers than he is with our heroes.
UNFIT FOR COMMAND.
Every member of the armed forces should turn their back whenever he appears in their presence.
This should be the STORY of his whirlwind tour. He can’t face the troops he’d allegedly lead.
Of course that's out...no photo op there.
He just canceled another visit to see the troops:

Isn’t that the story we’ve been commenting on?
Maybe Barry got a hold of this FR thread.

bttt
Maybe he can just issue a press release: "Wounded soldiers are such a drag. I'd rather go sight-seeing."
Obama noted that in a break from his whirlwind schedule, "we've got some down time tonight. What are you guys gonna do in Berlin? Huh? Huh? You guys got any big. plans? ...I've never been to Berlin, so...I would love to tour around a little bit."

I think they’re less than enthusiastic about meeting him...
This tour is losing more voters than it's gaining. Especially, in fly over country and with veterans everywhere.
“Barack Obama will not be coming to us,” a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. “I don’t know why.”
That announcement brought a standing ovation.
“send any crap like this, with links, text, message body, etc. to:
“and send it to Obama’s quick response team at fightthesmears . com “
Then they made up this story to pass around:
Hello everyone:
I know you all saw the picture of John McCain in the golfcart with President Bush 41. I was working in the golf club kitchen when they were there. I thought it would be neat to see the ex-President and the Republican nominee up close. When I attempted to go outside on my break and see the two gentlemen, I was told to stay inside. Some guy in a dark suit said that I had no business going toward the area that McCain and Bush were socializing with everyone. I stated that I was a patriotic American that just wanted to see some of our leaders in person. I was told that they were not interested in any interaction or contact with someone as myself. While we were standing outside the kitchen door, here came the President and McCain in the golf cart!! I was so excited that I yelled out “Hey! Mr. President! Mr. McCain!” The President stopped the golf cart and looked over at McCain. They both frowned, and then John McCain said toward me “Could you just get out of the way. We are trying to get to the clubhouse. Get off the cart path.” Then the President floored the cart and sped off. The guy in the dark suit told me to get back inside ‘right now’. About ten minutes later, my boss came in and said I was fired. I was escorted off the property, and my boss told me to never come back. All I wanted to do was give some attention to two American leaders. I just thought you might want to know the truth.

Just a good American
Ugh. Thanks!
Under-the-surface message to the troops: “You really are not important to me so I am cancelling my visit.”
Troops, be sure you get your ballots in before November.
Now that is funny OG
The breeze you just felt was the collective sigh of thousands of servicemen...
Well said.....
Yep. He’s all too happy to meet with the Eurotrash, but he apparently thinks he’s too good to actually visit the men and women who have been injured in the line of duty defending our country.
I can’t say that I’m surprised.
He doesn't want to see any more Fox News...
So a worker at the golf course harassed a guest of the course, and was fired.
Sounds about right. I imagine a golf course, especially a nice exclusive golf course, earns a reputation based on how well celebrities are kept from having to deal with well-wishers and celebrity hounds.
And it really isn’t a good idea to defy the secret service. While I would guess all the employees were “screened” in a cursory manner, I would also assume that the kitchen staff wasn’t patted down and searched for weapons, since they weren’t going to be near the former President.
In fact, if this story was real, I’m surprised it didn’t include the SS forcibly detaining the man when he stepped in front of the golf cart, to search him for weapons.
AOL poll I saw today had Obama ahead in everything asked. Which candidate better on foreign policy and something else also can’t remember what it was.
Misleading headline.
It should read that HE cancelled the visits.
What makes this even more disgusting is that Landshuhl is where wounded warriors first stop after leaving the sandbox.
I guess he just doesn’t have the time for them.
Well, hold on a second. There’s a simpler explanation. Here’s what his campaign said about it:
“During his trip as part of the CODEL to Afghanistan and Iraq, Senator Obama visited the combat support hospital in the Green Zone in Baghdad and had a number of other visits with the troops,” Gibbs said. “For the second part of his trip, the senator wanted to visit the men and women at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to express his gratitude for their service and sacrifice. The senator decided out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.”
Now, he isn’t supposed to get “government assistance” on trips that aren’t “official business.” Secretary Rice reminded all the embassies of that fact before this trip, right?
It seems to me that people who aren’t on “official business” shouldn’t get visits to US military bases anyway, hospitals or not; in fact, the government folks assisting with such visits might be violating both the Hatch Act and the military’s regulations against partisan political activity.
If the campaign is paying for this part of the trip, he shouldn’t get the treatment he gets on an official Senatorial trip. The Iraq and Afghanistan legs of this trip were official business, but the rest of the trip is not. So, in order to avoid an ethics problem and honor the boundaries drawn around his trip by the government, he had to cancel this visit. Seems pretty clear-cut to me.
Nope, wounded troops. He probably couldn't look 'em in the eyes. Plus such a visit would show a little too much support for the troops to make his base of anti-military moonbats very happy.
And of course they just discovered all this, *after* scheduling the stops at Landstuhl and Rammstein?
According to that link above, his campaign used that visit to announce his 'Round the World Campaign Blitz, which included stops (albeit short ones) in Iraq and Afghanistan.
From that article:
While the Illinois senator was inside [Walter Reed, visiting the wounded troops], Obama's campaign simultaneously announced he would be making trips to both the Middle East and to Europe shortly this summer.
