Obama Flipping and Floundering in Middle East

July 24, 2008

Kenneth R. Timmerman

Everything seemed planned for the future campaign commercials — at least, that’s how it seemed to a U.S. Air Force captain when Sen. Barack Obama and his entourage swooped into Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan for an hour-long visit last Saturday at the start of a week-long foreign tour.

“He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle” without pausing to acknowledge the U.S. troops who had been waiting all day just for the opportunity to meet him, the officer told the Blackfive pro-military blog.

As the soldiers lined up to shake his hand, the Illinois senator “blew them off and didn’t say a word,” ducking into the conference room to meet the general.

Then the armored vehicles took him to where “he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to soldiers to thank them for their service,” the captain wrote.

“As you know, I am not a very political person. I just wanted to share with you what happened” during Obama’s visit, the captain related.

“I swear, we got more thanks from the NBA basketball players or the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders than from Senator Obama,” he added.

The Illinois senator used his first-ever trip to Afghanistan to drive home his campaign message that the Bush administration — and by inference, his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain — have squandered resources in Iraq while ignoring the “central front” in the war on terror, which Obama insists is Afghanistan.

Traveling onward to Iraq, Obama met with U.S. commanders and with Iraqi leaders, who briefed him on the dramatic progress in decreasing violence that has been made since the U.S. troop surge began last year.

Don't we wish.
Get set of Obama’s “Triumphant Return.”

I predict this will be remembered as Obama's "Dukakis moment" ... in spades.

“Get set for Obama’s triumphant return”

Do you mean the second coming of the Obamessiah?

I don't know. It always seems the Democrats get away with this kind of thing. No one ever polls soldiers, nor do I think many of them would want to be polled and turned into a media circus. Rarely are they interviewed.

A few photos occasionally leak out...John Kerry at his ill-fated trip to Wendy's, for example.

For the most part, Democrats seem to get a pass.

No. I mean get ready for wall to wall coverage of Obama’s return from his Triumphant Tour of Europe and the Middle East Where He Brought Peace, Light, and Hope to All.

"days later, Obama said he needed to “correct” that statement, that had been “poorly worded” by speech writers."

Those darn speech writers put words in my mouth that I don't mean (and I'm too dumb to notice).

I can't deny that one.

Don't you find it interesting that even with all the 24/7/365 MSM propaganda for these socialists over all these years, they still get beaten by a rather mundane group of RINO presidential wanna be's?

Even Clintoon couldn't get a majority of the electorate to vote for him, and were it not for Perot ... sigh

“”Get set of Obama’s “Triumphant Return.” “”

I expect that the moving vans will already be at the WH on his return - Michelle will be directing the “move out” of President Bush. After all, why wait?

See:

for the whole story.

Oh well, at least the unfettered capitalism of P.T. Barnum’s “There’s a sucker born every minute” seems to be alive and well.

I hate to say but this captain just stepped in the sh#t big time. His email ( which was forwarded to me and I believe) was signed with his name rank and service. The higher command is gonna come down on him like a ton of bricks. They already have him backtracking and retracting his comments.

It’s possible that the first 6 paragraphs of this article may come from a fictionalized letter (though your link’s verification of the story comes from an Obama person, so who knows).
However, the article is about 40 paragraphs long, so read on

Snopes rubbished the story as well. I wish Timmerman didn’t start off an otherwise good story with this bit of urban myth.
