I don’t find any humor at all in this. It is just grim.

I agree.

I feel ambivalent about why he was in jail in the first place. Google reveals at least three guys prosecutors have dubbed the "spam king." My filter gets them every day from people who aren't being prosecuted. Does everything we don't like have to be a crime?

Still, it's no excuse for this scumbag.

If they prosecuted this guy, he was one of the kingpins who enabled gazillions of others to spam. He probably got paid money by these people to find ways to get email out to people like us, get it past our filters.

See, I feel differently. I am nearly at the point where I am beginning to believe capital punishment for spammers and hackers might be appropriate.

Granted, I am being semi-tongue in cheek, but think about the time you might go to the hospital, and your physician cannot view your xray results in a timely fashion because a virus has rendered his viewing client inoperable, or the medical database has been wiped out by a hacker just for fun. You, or someone close to you could die as a result.

Yeah...I guess I am extreme. If they convicted them and cut their hands off, there WOULD be a part of me that thinks they had it coming. I have wasted too much time and money on those things.

But I know what you mean.

Spammers steal from everyone. While you can happily filter them out on your end, spam clogs bandwidth and overloads mail servers. They have to be upgraded regularly to keep up with the load.

Those costs are passed on to the subscribers. You pay for spam.
