Worst over for drivers as pump prices slide: AAA

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. retail gasoline prices have fallen more than 10 cents per gallon in a week and could fall another 25 cents by the end of summer, a sign the worst is over for U.S. motorists this vacation season.

The decline tracks a record pullback in the price of crude that has come amid mounting evidence high energy costs and an economic slowdown are shrinking American demand for fuel, auto and travel group AAA said Friday.

"We expect pump prices below $4 this weekend and we could see the price fall another 25 cents before Labor Day (September 1), if oil prices don't rebound," said AAA spokesman Geoff Sundtrom. "We think it is primarily in reaction to the drop in demand by American consumers."

Average retail gasoline prices on Friday stood just over $4.00 a gallon, down 11 cents from the all-time high of $4.11 hit July 17, according to AAA's daily survey of up to 100,000 service stations.

Despite the recent declines at the pump, gasoline prices remain more than $1 higher than last year at this time, according to the AAA survey.

I can’t believe I actually got a little excited when I saw gas at a local station for ONLY $3.99.

Agreed. A drop of 25 cents is nice - hooray; it’s still over $4 - but we’re totally at the mercy of the market unless and until we get our own sources. Or at least until the Clown Congress announces that we’re drilling here and drilling now, and thus depresses the speculation in oil.

Yep.

This won’t last long. Any disruption in the system from oil field to pump and up it goes again. Just the fear of such a disruption can spike the price higher.

We must get people in office who will use EVERY available means to bring about significant energy independence. To leave leftists in office (let alone add to their numbers) is to practically guarantee economic disruption and, maybe, a full-blown depression.

As my wife, the stickler, says, "That's three ninety-nine point nine."

Going way out on the end of the limb, very brave. RBOB gasoline has dropped 52 cents from its recent peak. This should show up within a month. That would be the end of summer here. Not just down 25 cents, but 42 cents.

So they say. However, they factor the villages in and they are running about $9. My own local retailer has $4.75 last time I drove by, about the same as last month. I am due to top off the tank about 1 Aug, so we’ll see if that is down to $4.25 by then.

Many of the villages are dry. Import liquor and lose your snowmachine, four-wheeler, airplane, whatever is used to transport.

If I’m not mistaken, when our illustrious Communist County Supervisor Gary Patton finally got voted out of office, he was then appointed to the Air Quality department in Sacto. He finally got into an office where he couldn’t be voted out.

Arrgh.

Ummm....excuse me? It’s over?? Maybe the fine folks at AAA make a pretty good salary, but the pain at the pump is still continuing for many.

As you can tell from RightWhale posts, whiskey&wine in those villages is much more expensive...
