King sure didn’t act like a conservative....GOP or not.
Neither party can claim that mantle in any exclusive timeline.
That notion oft trotted out here is nonsense.

Your headline is incorrect. She says MLK Sr. was a Republican, not MLK Jr. Most blacks were Republicans until FDR.

The article says they both were Republicans: “”My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or Daddy King, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican.”

I take that to mean it was Sr. who was a Pub.

"My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or “Daddy King”, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican." From my reading, I think she is saying they both were.

Big deal. Vito Marcantonio was a Marxist-Leninist, but won election to congress as a Republican back in the 1930s.
MLK did some great things, but he was a leftist.

My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or Daddy King, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican. The above grammatically parses out with the first "was a Republican" referring to MLK Sr, and the last "who was a Republican referring to MLK Jr

I once had the privilege of meeting Dr. King Sr. We had an interesting conversation. I’ve known for awhile that some members of the King family were Republicans.
To: Hugin
The article is very clear. MLK, Jr. was a Republican until he voted for JFK (at which time, he led a black exodus out of the Republican party.)

On second reading I agree. Rather tortured sentence construction though.

King knew Southern Dems - and knew they were the racists... this is not a surprise.
