ABC News' Teddy Davis and Kevin Kilbane Report: During a "This Week" interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos John McCain reversed himself on affirmative action and endorsed for the first time a proposed state ballot measure which would end race and gender-based affirmative action in his home state of Arizona.

"I support it," McCain declared when asked about the referendum. "I do not believe in quotas... I have not seen the details of some of these proposals. But I’ve always opposed quotas."

Good move on his part, since minorities are all for Obama anyway.

My father also tended to forget his previous positions on issues as he got older...

Yes of course and when President he will uphold these newfound values he has come to. No thanks, John.

It’s been a long time since McCain was in favor of affirmative action... things have changed.

I had to fill out a school application/registration recently, and it asked for “Racial Preference.” I left it blank. Why would I answer that? When we first moved here, I filled out another school application the same way for one of our sons. Some bureaucrat decided to answer for me, and our son is now African American. lol We get letters in the mail for African American events within the school district and with universities in the state. We’ve attempted to have it corrected, but apparently all entities have not made the correction. We’re still getting mail about it . . .

Obama is for affirmative action to the max and has even admitted that it may cost some white people jobs and entrance into colleges.
At least now McCain is on the right side.

He needs to also burn the illegal alien populace. Hell, he is just for the cheap labor for the Chambers of Commerce crowd anyway.

LaRaza is backing Obama. Burn them, McCain. You could actually pick up real life legal voters.

It’s a good thing he’s not changing his mind close to the general election otherwise it would appear as pandering.

No thanks, John.

Have not decided definitely to support McCain, but I agree with you, Obama is much more likely to oppose affirmative action./sarc

Well, when it comes to shifting, he has nothing on Obama. Still, it’s hard to support him enthusiastically.

McCain may be a maverick, but he isn’t stupid. He knows that he has to move AWAY from the middle a bit to energize his base.

“Racial preference?” You mean you could choose if you wanted to be White, Black, Hispanic?

If he keeps this up and combines it with a conservative VP, he just might fool me into voting for him. Without any nose holding even.

That's good! Better late than never. Supporting equal treatment should be a matter of principle for the Republican Party. Ward Connerly has seen America embrace the notion even when the bipartisan establishment was against it.
