California public students will stick to reading, writing and arithmetic, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger decided as he vetoed a bill late Friday that would have required climate change be added to schools' curriculum. The measure, sponsored by state Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, also would have required future science textbooks to include climate change as a subject.
In January, the state Senate approved the bill, SB 908, by a 26-13 vote. Only two Republicans supported the proposal.
In his veto statement, Schwarzenegger said he supported education that spotlights the dangers of climate change. However, the Republican governor said he was opposed to educational mandates from Sacramento. "I continue to believe that the state should refrain from being overly prescriptive in specific school curriculum, beyond establishing rigorous academic standards," he said.
Schwarzenegger added that the state's Integrated Waste Management Board's Office of Education and Environment, along with California's Environmental Protection Agency, are creating an environmental curriculum for K-12 students that includes climate change issues. Simitian had said his bill wouldn't dictate what to teach; rather, it would require the state Board of Education and state Department of Education to decide how the topic would be covered and which grades would study it. While global warming is included in high school classes as it pertains to weather, the subject is not required to be covered in all textbooks, according to the California Science Teachers Association.

There are excellent real scientific rebuttals to Algore,s hysteria albeit, a real money maker for him....carbon footsteps come in all colors and sizes....Good on Governor Schwarzenegger for putting the brakes on this insanity, at least in grade school. The nation should follow his courageous steps in this war against common sense.

Not exactly - there is NO sanity in California classrooms. My son took an AP government class last year as a high school senior. His teacher was an out of the closet lesbian (teacher of the year) who’s favorite senator was Bernie Saunders (socialist). Their text book read like the exteme left-wing, Democratic talking points - gay marriage (per the textbook, there were fewer and fewer religious zealots against granting equal rights to all couples), global warming (Gore is an environmental messiah), socialism is just as good as capitalism (except that socialists care a lot more for the ‘little’ people) Gas/oil - bad, solar/wind power good. Businesses = bad, working poor = good. I think there was exactly one reference to religion in the entire book and none for the “founding fathers”, excuse me I mean “framers of the constitution”. After all, ‘founding father’ implies a partriarchal society......
Though the text was co-authored by Larry Sabato, who is supposedly non-partisan, the book was dripping with left-wing propaganda. It did provide plenty discussion topics for the dinner table, however.
In California, as best I can tell, every single class or textbook pours this left-wing propaganda onto our children so, just because it’s not technically part of the curriculum, it is part of every single class.

Actually, he knew there would have been repercussions. Families would have pulled their kids out of school, and there would have been lawsuits.
Just goes to show you how bogus the whole global warming scam is. When push comes to shove, these believers don't have the guts to fight for their agenda, they would rather have it passed stealthily or through liberal judges.
Is there a futures market question that allows “betting” on the claims of the global warming alarmists?
I’d like to see these people put their money where their global communist rhetoric is.
If kids learn science and learn how to think logically, they will spot fake history and fake literature. Therefore, they have to learn fake science in otder to become grown up idiots.
