Take this for what it's worth--and it may not be much--but a source well-connected in Minnesota politics (and in a position to know) is pretty sure Tim Pawlenty has pulled out of one or two events scheduled there for tomorrow. Assuming that's right, I guess it could mean any number of things: 1.) There was some random, non-veepstakes-related conflict that forced the change of schedule. 2.) McCain or his vetters intend to meet with Pawlenty tomorrow, possibly somewhere outside Minnesota. 3.) McCain intends to announce his veep pick tomorrow and has asked several short-listers to clear their schedules. 4.) McCain intends to announce Pawlenty as his running mate tomorrow.
I e-mailed a Pawlenty spokesperson about this last night and haven't received a response.
I'd put 4.) as least likely, but it would obviously be consistent with the schedule change. Also, Marc Ambinder passed along some speculation Friday night that McCain would be announcing his veep pick tomorrow, so keep that in mind.
Say It Again....McCain...WAIT!!!!!!
Most Americans have never heard of Pawlenty and will just yawn, forget him, and turn their eyes on Obama.
“I dont know that much about Pawlenty...”
Pawlenty is the man who failed to deliver to McCain the Republican Caucus in Minnesota even though he is the governor there.
After the fact, however, he and his allies rigged the game to deny Ron Paul any delegates even though the Paul forces had sufficient numbers at the caucus to get several.
I’m sure he’s a nice man but nooooooooooo. (pouting) According to Bill Kristol, the campaign wants Mitt or Tim, McCain wants Ridge or Jindal. Word is the VP picks will both come before the Olympics.
1. This is the wrong person. Jeez another RINO is not what the ticket needs.
B. This is the wrong time. They need to wait until a few hours before the big commie speech in Mile High.
Who is running the McCain campaign? I’m fairly certain I could do a better job.
Didn’t we try that once already?
I heard he’s going to pick: JOHN SMITH
Obviously not hard enough...
Is Pawlenty a RINO? I thought I read an article about him on here that made him seem like a pretty good guy. As long as he’s decently conservative and doesn’t have tons of enemies I’d be OK with him.
I think McCain will hold off until Obama names his VP.
This is just a lot of hype.
He's drunk the GW Kool-Aide along with McCain. Anyone who's drunk that can in no way be a True Capitalist. It makes one wonder how deep the deception goes. The man does seem socially conservative, however.
“This is the wrong person. Jeez another RINO is not what the ticket needs.”
Pawlenty is NOT another RINO. He’s hated by the local Democrats as he has vetoed lots of idiotic spending. Just last week he vetoed another one which resulted in the loss of jobs by a bunch of government workers. One of my colleagues at work was lamenting Pawlenty’s veto as her sister has lost her job now. This colleague is a faithful Democrat.
Pawlenty has to be a serious conservative to be willing to veto Democratic spending bills, especially when the news media is always criticizing him. He’s a very good speaker too, and a committed Christian. His wife, Mary, is a lawyer and a judge.
Personally I still favor Romney, but Pawlenty would be an OK choice.
John Bolton.
What a snooze-fest this would be.
Bob McDonnell for (Virginia) Governor - 2009
Didn't Pawlenty mention her in a joking comment recently?
Where is the effin' message? I'm no strategist, but his campaign has no theme, other than "Barack Obama is too inexperienced to be President".
Just like 41, McCain is deficient on the "vision thing".
The Republicans at the national level need to figure out that campaigns have better results when there's something/someone to vote for, vs. merely voting against the Democrats.
The issue, as we all know is simple and resonates throughout the land: Energy--Drill Here...Drill Now...Pay Less. Dingy Harry and San Fran Nan are the Boris Badenuv and Natasha to McCain being our Dudley Do-right.
McCain, quit whining about your coverage and focus like a laser beam on energy.
That all sounds good, but he’s still a Global Warming Kool-Aide drinker. With that he believes it’s OK to pilfer taxpayer money to advance a cultist agenda.
