I’ll admit I find the Church a little creepy, but would vote for Mitt over Obie.
He seems too much a big-business guy to me; hair’s too good, suits fit him too well. There’s a visceral distrust of him which no logic can dispel, because I won’t accept the premise on which it would have to be based.

So's Bay. She's a convert. I'm sure that has nothing to do with any of this though.

Not any more!

There isn't anyone at FR who has been more engrossed in the religion debates regarding differences in mormonism and Orthodox Christianity than I have for the past few months. While some of us freepers have been debating, the Romney camp has been busy turning a negative (mostly in the South) into a neutral, mostly by carefully applied condescension.

Orthodox Christians have been played, successfully, to 'feel' abusive if they decline to accept Romney because he is not in a Christian religion. Of course, most Orthodox Southern Christians still don't have a clue about mormonism and just read Christ in the name of the religion and make assumption.

Since entering the race for the nomination and subsequently dropping out/stepping aside--something Huckabee was incapable of doing, which disqualifies him hopefully forever more in politics--Romney has not become inert. His people have continued to work at becoming the nomineee for soemthing. The veep slot is a natural now.

Hopefully, Romney can maintain his energy if chosen by McCain, and campaign 'tirelessly' for down ticket Republican candidates. And if successful, it will make Romney the foremost candidate for the 2012 election cycle. If Mitt Romney is the selection, the Republicans will have a man at least as smart and charismatically slick as bill 'sinkEmperor' clinton, and with a whole lot more experience in economic affairs and dealing with liberals to get less liberal things accomplished. Well... If it's a choice between a Mormon and a RINO...

Um...

That came out wrong.

I'll have to get back to you later on this one.

No, it’s because he’s Mormon.

I can't stand him because he's Irish. But it does not matter that he is Mormon because religion doesn't matter. He was born a Mormon, he didn't chose his religion any more than Obama chose Wright's church. Besides, religion is a totally personal matter (as long as he is not a Scientologist). Belonging to an evil metastatic cult started by demonic con-men emanating from the same corner of hell (with an amazingly similar angelic story) as Islam, does not and should not matter a whit. Nope, not in any way. Anybody who cares about religion and the truth; anybody that does not subscribe to the pluralistic zeitgeist: that all religions are just "faiths" and that any sincere person "of faith" is good and noble and worthy of office; anybody who believes that what he believes and others believe is of eternal significance, is a BIGOT. Those nuts should be ashamed of themselves! This "identity politics" just has to stop! Religion does not matter! Religion has no influence on any leader's philosophy of government. The Book of Morman is just as good as any other book of the Bible for consultation or more likely, quoting to pacify the masses in a crisis. Besides, no president has time for religious crap anyway. A prayer is a prayer, people. They are all equal wastes of time. Mormons are Christians too, and they have the same God as the rest of the churches. Mormons are probably the most devout kind of Christians. They don't smoke, chew or drink (even coffee) and they have big families and beautiful children. God will bless us all anyway just as He always has because we are Americans and we tollerate everybody, and we don't care about religion. It just doesn't matter. Haven't you ever heard of "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE"?!?!?!?

It's more respectable to hate the Irish, and I'm half Irish to boot, than to care about the truth about Jesus Christ which matters so much more, now and forever, than who gets to be Caesar for a term in our government worshiping ever more socialist republic. So, no Irish need apply, not even Romney, thank you!

Jim, if you are Irish, I'm sorry, I've been around a long time and I hope I don't get banned.
