WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

My parents came from central Italy in the early 1900’s. They didn’t bring slaves with them.

Why is Ms. Kilpatrick a member of the party that supported both slavery and Jim Crow laws? She has sided with the political party that consciously used its power to oppress her ancestors.

If there is a reparations bill to pay, send it to the Democratic National Committee.

Outrageous hypocrites!

Isn’t that cute, the party that supports Socialism (slavery to the state) is apologizing for a different form of slavery.

This oughta do it, looks like we’re going to have “peace in our time”.

Now we’re going to have lots of happy and satisfied “African hyphen Americans” amidst us.

Thank God Almighty they’re “free at last”. No more trouble, no more problems, no more whining, no more complaining.

Another great day for our esteemed and courageous congress passing another vital, useful, helpful, empirical, pragmatic and realistic piece of legislation. It’s good that they’re sticking to the important stuff and not just more feel good but useless, pseudo symbolic fluff and tinsle and glitter.

For the first time in my life, I’m proud to be an American.

God damn (whoops, I mean Bless) America.

A Republican should have sponsored a resolution demanding that the Democratic Party apologize for slavery and Jim Crow. I’d love to see the debate that one would set off.

I’ve noticed over the years that some of my Southern brethren suffer the most from white guilt. That may be more appropriate, but my position has been, if they want to feel guilty, let ‘em.

H.RES.194
Title: Apologizing for the enslavement and racial segregation of African-Americans.
Sponsor: Rep Cohen, Steve [TN-9] (introduced 2/27/2007) Cosponsors (120)
Latest Major Action: 7/29/2008 Passed/agreed to in House. Status: On motion to suspend the rules and agree to the resolution, as amended Agreed to by voice vote.

There were 120 co-sponsors so you can at least check that list for any spineless wienies from your state who supported this resolution. Two of the usual liberal suspects from my state were on it.

‘my Republican ancestors who freed their ancestors from slavery.’

The dolts we have in congress seem to forget or not know that it was the Democrats who supported slavery. What a bunch of posturing, self serving sop suckers.

Citing the official US Census of 1830, there were 3,775 free blacks who owned 12,740 black slaves. Furthermore, the story outlines the history of slavery here, and the first slave owner, the Father of American slavery, was Mr Anthony Johnson, of Northampton, Virginia. His slave was John Casor, the first slave for life. Both were black Africans. The story is very readable, and outlines cases of free black women owning their husbands, free black parents selling their children into slavery to white owners, and absentee free black slave owners, who leased their slaves to plantation owners. -"Selling Poor Steven", American Heritage Magazine, Feb/Mar 1993 (Vol. 441) p 90

I wonder when Blacks will apologize for the terrible wrongs and injustices brought about by "affirmative action".

I'm waiting.

My family at a time were slaves in eastern Europe.
Their solution was to come to America. It's called
freedom and that's priceless!

Is there an international reparations committee?
