Any chance that the first slaves in America, the Irish at Jamestown, can get a cut of the reparations?

two questions. My wife is from Germany, how much does she owe?
Since Obama has slave owners blood, and no slave blood, what does he have to pay?
just curious

Surely you jest. Such an illustrious body as the US Congress would clearly know that persons of pallor are NOT eligible for reparations. Back to the re-education camps with you!

we are responsible for ending slavery though... I wonder if we can claim a rebate for that?

Ironically, the history of American slavery is anything but black and white.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

A little late. The slaves are dead. The salve owners and traders are dead. Neither victims nor the slave owners and traders are around anymore. House needs to apologize to the American people for their stupidity.

Why did the “House” apologize when it was the Democratic party that should’ve done it since they are responsible for fighting to keep slavery legal and creating Jim Crow laws in the first place? Boy, this should really bring down the cost of gas! *sarcasim*

Hey black America: how many mpg’s will your auto’s get from a tank load of apologies?

Depends on how much you and I pay them in reparations if Obama becomes Pres.

I suppose that the USA has nothing to do with freeing slaves. The slaves organized themselves into a labor union and staged a protest and freed themselves, is that it? So what are we apologizing for? Why aren’t the descendants of slaves thanking the US government for being free today? Why did the whole senate apologize for Jim Crow laws, the democrats were the ones who implemented them, they were the ruling party of the south during that time. Republicans have nothing to apologize for nor does the USA. 300,000 Union soldiers died fighting to free slaves, true they didn’t all die for that but many did. These soldiers were mixed races, but mostly they were white. So thank my ancestors black america for freeing yours and quit blaming me and other whites for your lot in life. Kick out Jesse and Al and get on with your lives.

"House formally apologizes for slavery and Jim Crow""

Pandering at its best. An attempt to keep blacks on the plantation.

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus."

Funny. I thought the previous milestones were more important, e.g., the date when black out-of-wedlock births topped 65%, when black women participation in welfare topped 40%, and when blake male incarceration rates topped 25%. Also, when black voting for Democrats exceeded 99%, and turnout exceeded 105% in inner city precincts in 2004.

Indentured servants, which I believe the Irish you are referring to were, are not slaves.

Oddly enough it was a Black, friend of mine from our days in Nam, who first told me that Blacks owned slaves too. I would never have had any idea if he hadn’t told me.

Apologies for sins of the past will assuredly be followed or demands for reparations that will make the mortgage bailout seem like peanuts. Vote Republican across the board.
