President Stops to Wish Woman Happy Birthday

GATES MILLS, Ohio -- President George W. Bush made a pit stop on his way back to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Tuesday evening.

After leaving a fundraiser in Gates Mills, his motorcade passed a home with a sign asking the president to stop by -- so he did.

Bush got out of the car and spent a few minutes with Ruth Harris, who was celebrating her 91st birthday with her family.

Bush sat in a chair next to Harris and said "91 years old -- how special."

When neighbors noticed what was happening, they soon surrounded the president for a moment with him, too.

Yes, I agree. But, a secret service nightmare.

W makes me proud of my 2 votes.

There have been up’s and down’s,
but no doubt he's a class act.

Clinton would have done the same thing.

...if it had been her 19th birthday.

Yeah, my thoughts too. Nice of Bush to do this but it wasn’t simply a spur of the moment decision. Even the POTUS doesn’t get to just stop his motorcade and crash somebody’s birthday party without some prior arrangements.

Beats the sign MY city put up when the Presidential motorcade rolled through in 2004. It said...

Mr. President, please help us widen this bridge!

what class.

According to the story, her loved ones were holding up a sign asking passersby to stop for a picture with Mrs. Harris. If you click on the link and look at the pictures, you can actually read what the sign says. I think it is just like President Bush to ask that his motorcade pull over as the story says. If it were Bill and Hillary or Barack Obama, no doubt the whole thing would have been orchestrated in advance.

Actually, President Clinton made unscheduled motorcade stops for lemonade stands.

I agree with skimbell...

..nothing can be spontaneous when one is President & accountable to great masses of Secret Service personnel who are risking their lives to protect him.

I'm surprised this made any kind of news. The President usually makes these kind of trips without any media in tow, unlike the "new president".
