But did they have a payment plan and were unable to meet the terms? They had to have been given a chance to pay before having a lien put on their home, didn’t they?

As I understood her situation, they were not able to pay outright for the cost of her treatment, so a lien was placed on their home. They had a payment plan and paid it off eventually. It took several years. In the end the cancer came back and she died in 2003.

Only in this country, can a citizen of another country come here, get medical care and not worry about paying the bill.
