Something's going on. Or some things.
A new CNN/Opinion Research poll out Wednesday shows that despite nine solid days of blanket media coverage from overseas with Barack Obama cheered by adoring throngs of Germans and parlez-vousing with the French, making a three-point shot in the Middle East and standing outside No. 10 Downing Street, the freshman Illinois senator is stuck right where he was in the polls before he left.
No bounce. Not even a roll.
A CNN poll average shows an even slimmer 48-45 Obama lead, dangerously close for an experienced opponent who relishes being the underdog.
"Obama has not picked up any ground against McCain on foreign issues," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "And some 52% think McCain would do a better job than Obama on the war in Iraq -- virtually the same number who felt that way in April."
Other polls show the same stubborn one-digit lead holding for the Democratic nominee-to-be with only 96 days left until the general election. Some crucial state polls even show McCain gaining.
Obama seems to have everything going for him. A fresh face. A smooth, cadenced speaking style suited for TV. A message of change at a time when Americans historically favor change, after one party holds the White House for two terms. And after several convictions of GOP legislators.
Obama's got tons of money. An attractive family. Energized followers. A media that's curious about the new guy and tired of ...
... the dogged old POW one. High gas prices, a poor housing market, a two-front war ongoing and a slightly sagging economy, all of which should help political challengers. Not to mention an unpopular incumbent president.

Apparently the sparky and stunning campaign being led by McCain is taking its toll. < /extreme sarcasm >
Actually sitting back and allowing Obama to wear thin on the American public isn't a bad campaign strategy. Just wait until the 527s rev-up and go after Obama the stuttering fool!
One problem for Obama is that anyone rational who looks at the nation's problems and Obama's solutions will see that he will likely just make things worse.
High gas prices: no drilling from Obama = higher prices.
Poor housing market: a natural response to the boom and I don't recall any Obama plans to fix it.
Two front war: retreat means losing both fronts.
Slightly sagging economy: raising taxes will remove the slightly from the description.
Avacado, the snoozer of a campaign that is John McCain has zero to do with strategy and everything to do with the doddering candidate. Hopefully, he found someone to whom he could apologize today, and a republican or conservative that he could renounce.
When contrasted with the snarky and pandering campaign of his opponent, stodgy wins every time.
your sarcasm’s showing!
i keep thinking,
any day now, john mccain will come alive.
Doncha just hate it when that happens? ;-)
Maybe McCain will pull a “Weekend at Bernie’s”. His rigged corpse will win the election.
McCain doesn’t have to. All he has to do is point out Barry and who he is.
The Dems blew it this time. I am glad I told the pollsters that Obama would be harder to beat than Hillary.
What happened was the first deadly breath of ridicule. And then there's the Clinton machine, wounded and waiting in the brush for the first opportunity to charge, and an Obama staff so overwhelmed by its own self-importance that it thinks the fight is over, not for the nomination, but for the election itself. This is hubris on the level of grand tragedy that is rapidly turning into farce.
This much popcorn can't be good for me.
You devious devil, you! LOL!
I was listening to POTUS ‘08 on XM and they had a discussion at the Am. Enterprise Inst. about the election. Some guy was comparing 1980’s election to this set of circumstances: bad economy, unpopular pres., etc. and he seemed to indicate this would be an opportunity for Bammi because people wanted change. Then he reversed himself and said that Reagan started to gain ground during the debate when he did a better job unscripted than Carter. I think with Obama fatigue welling up (latest polls cited young people losing some enthusiasm for BO), McCain may be able to seal the deal at the debates if he doesn’t stutter, too.
Hey! How did Kucinich get involved in this? >8oD
"I've lost me mojo!!!"
You ain't so dumb blondie...
Sorry...I meant you ain’t so dumb avacado...I know...I’ll shut up now
