I’ve confirmed that there’s some kind of problem on the Internet, that only seems to affect users of the Internet Explorer 7 web browser. Attempting to browse to many sites results in an ‘Operation Aborted’ error. No information about the problem elsewhere yet ... stay tuned.

It appears to be related to Sitemeter.com — browsing to their web site with Internet Explorer 7 produces the error too.
It’s a wonder people still use MSIE.
We’ve also encounterd problems with various right of center sites and milblogs, including several I have admin priveliges on.

This supposed “bug” is actually code from the developers of Firefox — this will surely help to increase that marketshare beyond 40%!!

That would be anyone who continues using sitemeter after it brings down half the blogs on the internet, and still hasn’t been fixed half a day later.
As of 1800 hours today my DCProtestWarrior site has been unlocked.
Confederate Yankee has some info up. I just tried to open the site and couldn’t. I also could not open Michelle’s blog nor could I open, (without logging in) United Conservatives.
Patterico is not opening. The Talon is not opening.
The number of sites affected is growing steadily. At last count, there were 40 sites confirmed affected.
At 10:33 PM last night, I received an email from Boston Maggie, saying that her blogspot site had been locked due to a spam report. She had posted some things about Jawn eF’n sKerry, (who served in Viet Nam, BTW) and she assumed it had upset some Taxachusetts liberals, who responded by hitting the “Flag This Site” button.
At 10:34 PM I received an email from Blogger telling me that MY blogspot site had been locked for the same reason. Someone had hit the “Flag This Site” button on my site as well.

Don't you have to use IE to download patches to M$ software?
Anyone who releases server software without testing it on the major browsers is simply incompetent. Sitemeter has screwed its users, thousands of them, and still hasn’t fixed it or posted a notice they are working on it.
I switched to mozilla firefox. its working.its free.
No. It’s a wonder that a company as well saturated as Sitemeter would put out a product with out fully testing it with the largest Internet browsing software in the world.

Actually, now that I think about it, I use IE6 to get my updates and download .net et al B$ when loading W2k on newly built computers not running Linux.

I just check our company web page which uses sitemeter. All pages have sitemeter, and work in IE 7, except one. But the one that doesn’t work in IE7 works in Firefox.
All pages have the exact same sitemeter code.
Weird.
Just get Firefox already.

Post #13 works and is easy.
To fix IE7: Click on the menu Tools -> Internet Options. Click on the tab Security. Click on the icon Restricted Sites. Click on the button Sites. Type the text '*.sitemeter.com' (without quotes). Click the Add button.
That will fix the problem.
