Readers may recall that I'm a bit down on the prospect of John McCain finding a running mate who will do him more good than harm. However, one person who might fit this description is John Kasich. He was a popular nine-term Congressman from Ohio, a state Republicans desperately need to carry. And he's originally from western Pennsylvania, another key area.
Kasich seems to possess a blue collar appeal that his party desperately needs. To be sure, he was never a Senator or a Governor, but he held a leadership position in the House, serving as Chairman of the Budget Committee. He was also a key figure in passing welfare reform. Thus, Kasich would seem to possess credibility when it comes to economic issues.
Kasich has his own show, "Heartland," on Fox News. He's good on television and his performances reinforce my belief that, more than anyone else being mentioned on the Republican side, he projects an authenticity that will appeal to what we used to call "the common man."

Look again, his is the second name mentioned in post 9. But it's based on a pretty week reed, unless there is more evidence about the three partying hearty with babes and such.
John Kasich is worse than McCain. He would weaken the ticket to death.
He is one of the gun-grabber caucus for starters. He also helped kill a reduction in the capital gains and death taxes.
Let's not wish this upon someone as good; someone as nice; and who makes a wonderful contribution; doing precisely what he does - best.
Kasich would make a wonderful vice president running mate for the Republican effort this fall although stumpy may have a problem with the other pouty mouth guy that hunches his leg, Lindsey Graham.
Oh that's just terrible, referring to McCain as “stumpy.” I have not yet forgiven Camille Paglia for calling the little guy that name in such a rude manner.
Well said. The GOP has no one to blame but themselves. Starting with George Bush, Tom Delay, Dennis Hastert, Boehner, and the rest of the whole sorry lot. They had an historic opportunity to change the course of the country for a generation and they blew it. It’s unforgiveable and unconscionable.
But there’s plenty of grass roots blame to go around as well. Who did we nominate? John McCain? Where was the grass roots during primary season? We had an opportunity to nominate someone who could correct the whole problem and we nominated a big f*****g RINO.
Conservatives have no one to blame but themselves.

This clown has watched Mr.Smith Goes to Washington a few too many times.He tries that earnest innocent stuff ad nauseum.And he is a gun grabber-just what we need.
Kasich wuld probably make it easy to cary Ohio and possibly also PA. I don’;t know what the objection is but he did really well for Ohioans when he served us. We were really hoping he’d run for Governor in 2010.
I'm not in the slightest suggesting Kasich had anything to do with Levy. But you choose your friends and Condit wasn't a pillar of character.

Kasich didn’t run again in 2000. This was before the Levy thing.
If you only state that the two were friends, then my comment wasn't directed at you. Perhaps you should read what I actually wrote.
“To link Mr. Kasich to Ms. Levy, or to Mr. Condit’s more sordid doings, without any evidence whatsoever, is what I'd expect from DUers.”
My posts on this thread were directed at posters who implicitly or explicitly tied Mr. Kasich to Ms. Levy, some by citing his friendship to Mr. Condit.
In fact, the first post to which I responded in this thread was:
“Nope. Two words: Chandra Levy. Two more words: Gary Condit.”
That is posting behavior I'd expect from DUers.
That Mr. Kasich and Mr. Condit were friends is a bit of a non-starter, in terms of opposing Mr. Kasich for high office. Unless someone also opposed Duncan Hunter because of his good friendship with Mr. Cunningham, a convicted felon late of prison for bribery.

We all have got to realize that America is so hungry for a black person in the Executive branch of our government, that they are willing to give the whole thing to an inexperienced man, with a questionable background!
Republicans have got to realize this. America wants a black president! America really, really wants a black person in the White House. Why is it so hard for Republicans to get this through their heads?
The fact is, that America is mostly conservative. Conservative wins if all things are equal. If Republicans had a good conservative candidate-who was a person of color— they would win hands down. But, we don't, so we need one in the VP slot.
Running 2 white guys is gonna fail. Having woman, of any race, on the ticket, is the next best thing to having a black person on the ticket.
I like Heather Wilson or Jennifer Carroll from Florida. Also, someone brought up Katherine Jenerette.
The perfect person would be J.C. Watts. All conservatives love him. But, from what I heard, he had a good reason not to run for office again. But, who knows, maybe the problems could be overcome? Is he being vetted? Of Course Colin Powell would also be perfect. But, last I heard, he doesn't want to run, and he was advising Obama. See, even Powell wants a Black President! The idea gets people excited. It isn't the man-—sorry to say this, but, it is his color. His ideas are mostly abhorrent to the majority of people. But, he smiles nice, and it would be history making to vote him in. That is the truth of the deal.
It is all about race. Lets just talk about the elephant in the room. It is all about Obama’s race. Like it or not. Most Americans are want to like him, because he is black. So, they ignore all the warnings that something isn't quite right with Obama, because he could be the first black President. Most people are not racist, and want to prove it by voting in a black President. That is the nerve that Obama touches. Most people don't pay any attention at all to what he says. Just at the color of his skin.
To ignore this heartfelt yearning of the people, is a death nell. LISTEN McCain!

Had Santorum been reelected in 2006, he would be very much in the running. But given that he was defeated by a landslide, I don’t see it as likely at all.
Your primary directive as an administrator is to ensure that you do not spend more than you take in. It is budget 101.

OTOH, Breck Girl was defeated in his quest for reelection and was a player in the Dem primaries this year. And until the Enquirer piece, was in the running for Barry’s VP.
I think you are confusing Dennis Kucinich (D., Cleveland) with Kasich (R, Columbus).
Funny to read the BS about Kasich, Chandra Levy, etc. I can remember when an opponent in the congressional elections suggested Kasich was gay...
The fact is he is a pretty normal guy with pretty good values. By the way, the vote for the assult weapon ban irritated me, too, but not as much as the lame excuse for that vote.
