Bipartisan Senate group pushes energy plan

Other senators touted the plan's affordability to U.S. taxpayers and its efforts to provide energy in environmentally friendly ways. The plan is estimated to cost $85 billion, but would be offset with "loophole closers and other revenues," including money from the new leases and from closing a oil industry manufacturing tax credit.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., said the oil drilling portion of the plan would open up areas of the eastern Gulf of Mexico as well as areas off the eastern United States. He said the plan calls for a 50-mile buffer zone. Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia could opt in to oil leasing off their shores.

The plan is not expected to be acted on before Congress takes is August break, scheduled to begin next weekend.

Other members of the group include Sens. John Thune, R-S.D.; Ben Nelson, D-Neb.; Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Mark Pryor, D-Ark.; Johnny Isakson, R-Ga.; Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.; and Bob Corker, R-Tenn.

Read em and weep. What in the f is wrong with the Republicans on this list providing a life preserver for the Democrats this election season? Please if these guys are in your district tell them how you feel. This just plain stupid. McCain should kick Lindsey Graham in the balls. Just when things are beginning to look up we have this bunch of incestuous traitorous Republicans helping to alleviate the election troubles of Landrieu who is our best chance for a pickup. What in the hell is wrong with the Republican party? Doesn't anyone understand what the hell is at stake?

Here is a spot of news I acquired today doing some research and I looked at there company web site and it has maps galore Sen Nelson and Martinez are liars they said there is no drilling in Cuba. Impeach the both of them. Look at the web site for yourself:

Here’s the story. While the Chinese are busy building a off-shore Oil Rig and learning how off the cost of Mexico a little known secret has pooped out for my ancient formally nicotine stained lip from my pipe. The situation is a company called SHERITT INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION of Toronto Canada. They have been drilling and producing 60,000 barrels a day 1/2 mile off the beaches with slant drilling. That is the technique that Sadam used as justification for invadeing Kuwait ( Desert Storm ) The US Geological Survey estimates there are 4.6 Billion Barrels within a 1/2 mile of the beaches in Cuba and the Canadians have found it. So they are shipping it to South America and its being refined in Brazil and sent back to Cuba while the Cubans are busy building a refinery on there Northwestern Coasts. They estimate 14 months for the refinery to be completed. 2 years for exporting the gasoline to other locations.........................................Who knew. Simple the MSM and there lackeys the democrats have lied to us. They have been drilling since Oct 2002 and it is producing and the Castro Brothers are laughing there - - - off..............................................................................

This is just too much...the freakin @**wipes in DC need to be drilled right in the “kisser” for their actions, or in-action that is.

This isn’t a real energy plan, it is a sop so the democrats can say they tried. Any republican signing on to this should have their a** booted out of the party, but of course they won’t. I want nothing to do with the so called gang of 10’s energy plan.

Saxby explained it Friday afternoon as the framework upon which debate and changes can be fashioned after the recess. Match that with the Obamination flip flop regarding ‘limited off-shore drilling’ and a pattern begins to emerge which has all the smell of the democrat set up the Pubbies again! Saxby is supposed to be smarter than this. Mary Landreau in the group should have clued him in, but apparently it didn’t. He must not be familiar with her deceitful past on issues like abortion. She’s such a good ‘catholic’ don’tchaknow. [I didn’t capitalize on purpose ‘cause she’s no Catholic in my book.]

This gang of ten thing is a joke, meant to make fun of McCain. I noticed that Obama is now mimicking McCain’s statements on taxes, inserting off shore drilling for tax hikes. You, know, the nothing off the table, line.

Geez, I just saw that Lindsey Graham is a member of this group. I don’t know who Isakson is, but is he gay, too? Graham bows to everything the Democrats want, for fear of being exposed as a homosexual.

Okay lets see if i understand we want Nancy Pelosi to allow a vote but we don’t want a vote in the senate. And new we want to play politics and NOT do somethinq that will allow drilling. I want them to vote and every self serving ninny that votes against drilling should be voted out of office. Not this bs of tabling stuff. The ONLY people here getting hurt are the people of the country. So no i will not call these guys and tell them to stop. I will happy that someone finally put the country over their own ambition. John Thune and Bob Corker are pretty reasonable guys. We are are not talking Olympia Snow here.

And just a few days earlier McConnell got Salazar to object to offshore drilling even at $10 a gallon.

And the republicans wonder why they are in the minority. Spineless ________!

Why should it cost $85,000,000,000 dollars to lease out mineral rights offshore?

I mean, even the Federal Government is not that inefficient.

So the money is going elsewhere.

While "loophole closers" fetch it, which means that money is going to be sucked out of the oil industry and redistributed to schemes which will probably never get a semi from one coast to the other.

Without knowing the details, there is no way to know what kind of crap is written into this plan, nor how it will affect the ability of the oil companies to drill offshore and make money enough to make it worthwhile to risk the capital and make the necessary infrastructure investments to get one barrel of oil to shore.

Tax structure alone can kill any drilling program before the first well is spudded.

This just plain stupid. McCain should kick Lindsey Graham in the balls

Mr 'gang of 14' kick Mr 'gang of 10'?

I doubt it.

Landrieu is toast in Louisanna for voting for no shale drilling in Colordo. I wonder how many Democrats are in her shoes.

So true, friend.

The R's have been handed an exceptional opportunity for the upcoming elections and instead of taking advantage of it (and nailing the Rats to the wall at every opportunity) a few RINO A-Holes, allow themselves to be co-opted into a "Bi-Partisan" (Read--"Conservatives get screwed and Rats get what they want")Plan.

ANYTHING with GramNesty's name or involvement is bound to be bad for Conservatives.

In addition, I didn't notice ANYTHING about drilling in ANWAR. If you ask me (and I'll volunteer it regardless) this is nothing but a shell game and will amount to nothing but a Hill (pun intended) of Beans and BS.

Worst yet, it will give the Rats an opportunity to go before the voters and take credit for nothing.

But Nancy Polisi donned her super hero cape and flipped the switch to save the world. Will she be dragged back to the House in order to betray her quest?

“I want them to vote and every self serving ninny that votes against drilling should be voted out of office. Not this bs of tabling stuff.”

You are not alone. If there is a cold calculation by GOP senate leaders to trip this, it could backfire. Even taking this road, it will be difficult for the Rats to save face. In fact, voter gratitude for Republican leadership could pay off. I don’t think America will respect flipflopping rats.
