How on Earth did a Democrat win that district?

I live in his district and we ask ourselves that all the time. He has a stranglehold on the seat. In his favor he worked his tail off to prevent the closure of the Waco VA hospital and in general takes good care of the military in the area. That's about the only good thing I can say about him.

Fort Hood used to be in Chet’s district. John Carter-R is our Congressman now, thank God!

Chet Edwards is a typical dem politician, except he has never publicly cheated on his wife. The media loves him, and gives him credit for everything. When he did represent Fort Hood, there was a press release for every single bullet delivered to Hood, and he told us that it wouldn’t have happened without him.

HE RUNS AS A CONSERVATIVE

Most Democrats from Southern states do the same thing just like the ones from Arkansas. You would think they were Republicans because many don't even advertise a party affiliation.

College Station was represented by Republicans ever since Phil Gramm switched parties in the early 80s. Unfortunately, the most recent redrawing of congressional districts put us in Edwards' district (Tex Pete, you got John Carter at our expense!).

The GOP hasn't worked hard to oppose him since then, and he's made mincemeat of the weak candidates he's faced. He even won the Aggieland vote in 2006, after shamelessly showering US taxpayer money on the university. Oh, he's also good at working a lot of conservative rhetoric into his campaign materials (even though his voting record speaks otherwise).
