SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. - Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be given the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr as a holiday.

According to a news release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, a new 5-year contract at the plant included the change to accommodate the hundreds of Somali Muslims who work at the plant .

I haven't bought any products from Tyson since Hillary was put on their board and multiple plant closings took place for unsanitary conditions.

ditto here. I normally don’t pay attention to brands that much, but no way I’ll purchase anything from Tyson after reading this!

At my last job the company gave out desk calendars for its employees. No mention of important dates in American and world history such as the date of the Korean War Armistice or D-Day or even Pearl Harbor were noted. But you better believe Eid al Fitr made it to the calendar.

What the hell is happening here?

Don’t know if this article covers it but non union workers get to keep labor day, only the union workers at the Tyson plant got screwed. We used to vote on our contracts but it looks as if this was kind of railroaded through. So now Union Laborers at the Tyson plant no longer have the holiday that was designed to honor Labor. Isn’t that just ducky?

nearly 700 Muslims, many of them Somalis, who work at the plant that employs a total of 1,200 people

If those are their demographics, then it makes sense... but how on earth did they get to over 58% Muslim in a state that is less than 1% Muslim?

Don’t forget to tell your butcher you want no Tyson product, at all. They process much more than chicken.

Wow, I haven't brought a single Tyson product since the Clinton days when I found out how much corruption went on between Tyson and the Clintons. Just to name one was Hillary's cattle futures windfall which involved large volumes of trading done by Tyson where a few "winners" could easily be put into Hillary's account without raising any eyebrows. There were many other shady dealings between the camps.

And here I thought I was the only one with a life long boycott of Tyson products still in effect. Heck, I even found they made some of the burrito wraps and I switched to another brand.

Probably refugees, given cash and jobs ahead of citizens like the Bosnians in St. Louis.

“...how on earth did they fet 58% Muslim in a state that is 1% Muslim?”

They found their Baptists and Pentecostal employees kept trying to convert the chickens ;^O*....

With Arkansas being one of the poorest states in the country, are you going to tell me that there aren’t locals who would jump at the opportunity to work in a union plant? How is it possible that 700 Somalis found their way to this plant?

Tyson was Bill Clinton’s largest campaign donor during his bid for governor. I vowed then never to buy Tyson. I haven’t since, and never will.

Since I didn't live in Arkansas, I only stopped buying Tyson in '92 when The Slickster was running for president, after I found out the close ties between him and Tyson. Haven't bought Tyson since, and obviously never will.

Ah, isn’t Labor Day a Federal Holiday? Two, shouldn’t immigrants adopt American Holidays and how should they know, when to stop wearing white shoes? Three, I have no problem with Tyson accomadating employee wishes, they ought to, but not at the cost of other employees.

Me too!

I've refused to knowingly buy Tyson products ever since I learned of the Clintons' connections to the company -- and that was a long time ago.
