The U. S. House of Representatives is admired and revered around the world. It is often referred to as the most deliberative body in the world, the ‘People’s House’. At the end of each legislative day, every member of the House has the privilege and right to take to the well or podium and ratify with action and validate with deed one of the core dreams of our founding fathers: freedom of speech. Each member may speak for up to five minutes on the topic of their choosing, representing their constituents in the most unadulterated, pure manner -- unfiltered First Amendment.
So when confronted with a misguided democrat majority party and Speaker Pelosi -- from our perspective and that of the majority of the American people -- who ignored the will of the people and adjourned the House for a five week vacation without addressing the most important issue of our day, the rising price of gasoline -- we felt it important to organize a number of our colleagues to commit to take advantage of their right and speak for five minutes on this injustice on the final day of this Congressional session until September 8th.
Consequently, last Friday at about 10:45 AM, with the House poised to adjourn, we had nearly 100 members of the Republican conference ready to speak -- ready to give breath to our founding document - ready to advocate on behalf of the roughly 700,000 constituents who sent them to Washington. Once Speaker Pelosi and the Democrat leadership got wind of this, they would hear nothing of the sort. True to form, they passed an ultra-partisan adjournment motion, objected to by virtually every Republican member. Its passage would end the ability for anyone to officially speak.

Much like “compromising with Republicans”, which is code for limp-wristed Republicans giving Dems everything they want.

Anne Korin, Co-Director for the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security spoke at a Young American Foundation, National Conservative Students Conference this morning. She spoke about the combo as the only way...NOT drilling only. She said it is a very real situation that we drill more, they drill less = same amount of oil.
I believe that we need to send the message that IT'S NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL (We're gettin' our own darn oil!!!)....AND....COMBINE THAT AS SHE POINTS OUT, WITH FLEX-FUEL VEHICLES, OR WE'VE LOST THE BATTLE.
We need vehicles which offer us choices, to keep the playing field "honest." (my words) Competition is the only option, and when you have basically a drug cartel in the oil industry, you cannot escape its hold, UNLESS YOU CREATE VEHICLES...WHICH THEY ARE MAKING RIGHT NOW FOR BRAZIL...THAT ARE FLEX-FUEL (use whatever is the cheapest commodity at the time) VEHICLES!!!!!

And they say that Bush’s “Congress” didn’t tolerate dissent.
Dems. thought they were marginalized when Republicans ran the Congress. But now they are in control, and the spirit of being bi-partisan is dead. Nancy would rather adjourn the House than take up energy legislation or anything else. Congress comes back Sept. 8th, but will adjourn again soon after because this is an election year. By early October, Congress will be out again running for re-election.
Dems. are playing politics. They are rolling the dice that the new Congress in January will have more Dems., and that they will have a President Obama to deal with also. They don’t want to do anything the rest of the year because they have high hopes for the November elections.

This doesn’t matter, it was great for the Repubs to make a stand like this. It’s inconsequential, the MSM has barely even talked about this. If the Dems did something like, it would be all over the news.
I would like to be proved wrong about how I feel about this, but I don’t see anything coming from this as usual.
Everyday they fail to act, the better off WE the people are.
Tom Price is one of the most decent people I have ever met...knew him before he landed in Congress and was just a neighbor in GA. He is kind, smart, wonderful...and apparently some of the biggest brass ones in DC...hooray!

What makes me ablaze with fury is Pelosi’s statement Sunday that Republicans should “use their imaginations and find a way” to force a vote. In other words, she knows there’s a procedural tool, refuses to share it, and then taunts the Pubbies for not knowing how to get a vote. Reminds me of second year law students in trial advocacy saying, “It’s not up to me to tell him how to get his evidence admitted, Your Honor” (smirk, smirk). Our national debate has come down to “you didn’t say, ‘Mother, may I?”. Argh.

The question came up at the GOP House presser today. Rep. Price gave a great answer.
Tom Price is a winner. He was redistricted and I lost him as my rep. I have really liked my new rep Gingrey up until now, but he hasn’t been on any of the lists as being involved in this, which is disappointing.
Great article. I’m glad this was written. It addresses a deficiency in the Republicans’ initial communication on the why and how this action arose. It was not a planned, staged “revolt”. The democrats and the willing media have been able to dismiss this as a meaningless stunt by focusing on the fact that the session was legitimately adjourned, completely ignoring the part about cutting off all the standard 5 minute speeches that end each session.
Unfortunately, most everyone who reads Human Events already knows this, and a wider audience is needed.
I see Duncan Hunter is on the list. The man was my choice for nominee.
The Dems get a 5-week paid vacation, and the result might be that some of us could freeze to death this winter.
