"It is very dangerous and very frightening...

To whom is it dangerous and frightening?

Cops carry open in every state, many states have open carry for civilians. Are all the citizens who see a gun frightened and in danger? Is so, then just about everyone in the country must be frightened and in danger.

“The man was carrying a Glock 40 handgun... His weapon was also confiscated by police.”

Yep, it’s a keeper!

grellis: mi ping!

marktwain: yes MI allows open carry, and there is no exception for localities to enact more strict gun control laws, HOWEVER, as cox, and previous AG’s have pointed out, and have specifically said that open carry in MI is a bad idea as you will be harrassed by the police.
IIRC, the opinion is that the most likely charge is something akin to inciting terror.
what we need to know is what the actual charge is.

While Michigan law allows carrying concealed weapons with a permit, Grand Haven has a local ordinance prohibiting openly possessing and carrying dangerous weapons in public, Reiss said. People carrying weapons can be frightening and the department received several verbal complaints about the man, Reiss said.

Were the cops arrested as well? If it isn't safe for a law abiding gun owner to carry a firearm openly there, then it isn't safe for the doughnut brigade to be carrying either.

Or is this yet another liberal "two legs good, four legs bad" kind of thing?

I don’t agree with the law, but open-carrying in a large crowd after dark isn’t smart, unless you’re a LEO or security guard on duty, and you’re keeping your attention focused on safety and security. If you go to an event like this as a spectator, clearly your main purpose is to watch the event and have a good time, not stay focused on the fact that your firearm is on display and accessible to hordes of strangers.

Incredible writing

Did the gun make an arrest, or did an officer arrest the gun?

Such stupidity

CT is a ‘Green Star’ state for open carry, which means you may open carry if you have a concealed carry permit.

I just wouldn’t want to try it around Stamford, though. I once asked a cop about concealed carry in my local mall, he walked about 10ft before he started to answer.

I think you have it reversed.

I think it’s “Four legs good, two legs bad.”

The blatant, illogical, stupidity in the article and on behalf of the LEO’s harassing this guy makes me ill.

The population needs to be educated, but educating while being arrested is probably counter-educational.

It seems to us that getting oneself arrested will leave a mark-whether or not one is cleared and the winner of a suit following. There will be a record, one which may preclude further self-protection based on the body of law-it doesn’t have to make sense, its just the law!

Carry openly in the Field, carry discretely in public. One purpose is to shoot game, protect oneself from 4 legged (or no legged varmints) and maybe a two legged varmint, the other is to protect oneself and loved ones from 2 legged predators while not marking oneself as the priority target.

Open carry may be legal, but certainly not, in my opinion, the best way to either protect oneself or educate the public. All the uniformed public saw was an armed man getting arrested, therefore they learned that carrying a gun is wrong. Don't have to make sense. Remember, there probably was at least one CCW guy present, walking away with his loved ones, truly safe and educated.

God Bless & MOLON LABE (if you can find it)

No more so than the cop at the local donut shop.

Yes everyone knows you can shoot down an airliner in the sky with a Glock!

Yep. I use mine to deflect asteroids. Well, somebody has to.

“OK...which FReeper was this ?????”

He's not a FReeper but it sounds like my brother who carries open most of the time.

Even without checking names, I know it wasn't because the article didn't mention a bunch of cops getting the *rap beat out of them.

If you have a situational awareness deficit and do not give a crap about being able to defend yourself or family I agree.

not stay focused on the fact that your firearm is on display and accessible to hordes of strangers.

Why the hell would the firearm be accessible to strangers? Do you leave your wallet at home because you don't want it accessible to strangers too?

Why did you even postulate such a silly notion?

I normally carry my wallet in my handbag, along with my Keltec P-32. If I’m going out running at night, the wallet stays home and the KelTec goes in the pocket of my running shorts. It makes no sense to wear either the KelTec or the wallet hanging on the outside of my clothing, advertising their presence and precise location to every random thug whose line of sight I might happen to pass through. If your primary purpose in being in a particular location is to provide law enforcement or security presence, then advertising the fact that you’re armed can be helpful. But in such situations, your attention should be focused on your duties, not on fireworks, aerobic fitness, shopping, a movie, etc., making it much less likely that you’ll be distracted while somebody grabs your firearm.

Well I guess some of us have the attention span to open carry and some don't.

making it much less likely that you’ll be distracted while somebody grabs your firearm.

If one has any real training at all, hell will freeze over first.
