You just made me realize that we don’t yet have a 300 trillion dollar international plan backed by a UN committee to deal with continental drift. I can almost feel that Nobel prize medal in my hand already.

Yes, but the facts tell a different story. There has been no warming since Bush took office, proving that he solved the problem.

On this site, Cogitator for a while tried to defend the warming globaloney. Eventually he gave up because he was losing so consistently.

On some fronts he was successful, correcting notions like Mars is Warming, One Volcano exhausts more GHG than all of mankind, and other such Rushbot-spewed nonsense. On the more serious questions like climate sensitivity, he was repeating the analysis of others, who, very questionably, add water vapor feedback as a long run effect to their models in quantity without the model detail needed for precision. Similarly, the models don't predict ENSO and are essentially worthless in the short run. But I doubt his sign is wrong in the long run unless you believe increasing CO2 causes cooling.

Hell with summer! Where I live it’s probably 10 degrees warmer than it was only 2 HOURS ago! At this rate, well have temperatures over 500 by the end of the week!

Good article; thanks for posting it! (I love Williams anyway, and am glad to see him weighing in on this.)

This article is proof positive that the majority of global warming is the hot-air nonsense spewed by its religious adherents! We should all smirk knowingly when they bring it up, since the one thing leftists cannot tolerate is ridicule.

xcamel, thanks for the ping!

election of the saviour, barack obama, will save the entire universe

Since the election is a whole 3 months away, Rip, we shouldn't take the chance of waiting! Let's vote in Algonquin J. Obama by e-mail right now ... before it's too late.

Thank you for your timely warning. Had we only listened to you earlier ... or Jerry Lee Lewis when he tried to warn us with his prophetic 45 RPM Hit Single ..."Great Balls 'o' Fire!"

Yep. One knows in their heart that this GW stuff is baloney but the dummies who vote in Dem districts keep putting the fakers into office who immediately pass even more absurd enviro rules which punish capitalism, free enterprise and personal rights. Yet, the public seems astonished when this is pointed out. It doesn’t help when both political parties are dumbfounded with real scientific facts and believe the chicken littles.

The Science of Global Darkening

I collected data on local darkness from one hour before dusk to dusk. An odd result is that it became darker. This might not have gotten my attention, except that there was a very clear trend. The darkness curve did not go up and down as if some stochastic process was at work. It just got darker and darker with every measurement, providing a very clear trend.

Thinking this might be only a local result, I checked with friends in different parts of the world. Sure enough, no matter where they were, similar measurements gave similar results, clear trends toward darkness.

The most alarming data came from historical records of measurements at the North Pole. Within the last year, daylight had disappeared completely, with darkness at pole for around six months.

It appears as though the pole has given us a dire warning. It has fallen into darkness, and that darkness is traveling south. If this trend continues, the earth will be completely dark within a year. Spot measurements confirm the trend.

The consequences will be enormous. All plant life will die and the earth will turn into a frozen asteroid. We will all die.

We must act immediately. No amount of spending or adjustment to use of resources is too much. Everything is at stake. All resources must be aimed directly at controlling the relationship between the sun and the earth.

I stopped arguing because too many people here are so adamantly welded to ideology they cannot think logically or accept when a point to which they have pledged psychological allegiance has been decisively refuted. The current warming trend (and forget all that baloney about starting in an El Nino year and ending in the first half of a La Nina year) is about 0.2 C / decade -- according to satellites, and 0.4 C at the surface since 1980. I expect you'll find a way to psychologically evade those facts. Remember that trends are measured over decades, not a span of years; a decade is a span of years, not "over decadeS".

So I try not to waste my time here anymore. If a point comes up to which I can lend additional information, I do that. Otherwise, I keep quiet.

Thanks for the kind words, palmer. I have always admired your ability to look at scientific questions scientifically.

++++++++++++++++
My neighborhood too. What we’re doing is blasting our air conditioners full blast and opening our patio doors so that the cold air can cool the neighborhood.

But I doubt his sign is wrong in the long run unless you believe increasing CO2 causes cooling.

On first principles (physics), it certainly can't. I think the comments of the beloved Pat Michaels at the recent climate skeptic conference in New York are particularly apropos. JasonC would do well to read them. Below is one of the best "captures" (from a skeptical site) of what he said.

Global Warming: Is it Really a Crisis?

"Michaels began by telling the audience, "Global warming is real and people have something to do with it." He also noted that one should not care a whit about the fact that humans are causing temperatures to increase. Rather, one should care how much the increase is likely to be.

Michaels pointed out that the surface records show average global temperatures increasing at a steady rate of +0.17 degrees centigrade per decade since 1977. He also hastened to put the kibosh on recent assertions that "global warming stopped in 1998." While global average temperatures have been essentially flat since 1998, Michaels argued that natural variations in the climate mask any increases due to greenhouse gases. In particular, cooler waters in the Pacific ("La Nina") and lower solar activity have conspired to drop average global temperatures. When these trends reverse, average global temperatures will rapidly rise to reveal the established long term man-made warming trend of +0.17 degrees centigrade per decade. Michaels warned against succumbing to the temptation to cite current flattened global temperatures as evidence against man-made global warming."

It would be unsurprising to note that I disagree with Michaels many other things, and I've always known his POV has been to be a low-baller on the predictive angle. So I take his position as the low end of the rational, scientifically informed, and the scientifically honest (despite a few tricks Michaels has performed in the past). Toss in any additional positive feedbacks (such as decrease albedo, increased relative humidity) and the prediction goes up. And so I'm a centrist on the predictions; always have been.

"Ring of Fire" .... Hilarious.

If you were indeed still thinking, you would not make light of the horrible danger in which Mother Gaia now finds herself due to the Bush Family and Big Oil.

Keep up the nasty cracks, and you and Ripley will be hot-bunking in an Algonquin J. Obama Political Re-Education Camp. I, OTOH, by accepting the overwhelming evidence for Global Warming as presented by The Anointed One, and by Mr. Al Gore, the Nobel Guy, hope to be made a guard, or even a trusty.

Cogi, n.b.: Apropos does not mean "appropriate."

Now apropos Michaels'..... "natural variations in the climate mask any increases due to greenhouse gases. In particular, cooler waters in the Pacific ("La Nina") and lower solar activity have conspired to drop average global temperatures."

Precisely. Now how does Pat Michaels contrast this with the last 2500 years of known climate changes in one direction or another? I feel his pain. By coming out directly and forthrightly against the Global Warming coterie, he would never eat lunch in the faculty dining room again.

So I take his position as the low end of the rational, scientifically informed, and the scientifically honest (despite a few tricks Michaels has performed in the past).

Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, Cogi. You might want to bring Michaels up to speed on the Milankovitch Cycle. While you're at it, remind yourself that these wankers are intent upon using this Global Warming twaddle to collapse the economies of the West.

Where o where were the Global Warmers when Greenland was Green?
