A surge in Hispanic immigration over the past decade has dramatically altered the racial and ethnic composition of the region's youngest residents, according to U.S. Census Bereau figures released today.

As with minorities in general, immigrants tend to be younger than non-hispanic whites and still in their childbearing years. As a result, in five suburban Washington counties, more than half of children age 4 and younger were minorities when the annual Census Bereau survey was taken a ear ago.

When I moved into my old neighborhood about 11 years ago, the racial makeup at my children’s school was 80 percent white, 15 percent black and all others were only 5 percent.

I moved out 3 years ago, to the suburbs. At that time, the Hipsanic ‘minority’ in those schools had climbed to 45 percent, with whites at 35 percent.

I moved to the suburbs, but not just for that reason.

I admit it, it sounds racist, but it’s the truth.

Last week, I was watching Univision and I was amazed at the number of commercials for ESL programs.

Hispanics are more likely to assimilate than the black underclass. But even with non productive black civilians, many of black males are marrying white women so that should force the "ghetto culture" to change eventually.

We have a strong Hispanic organization at my workplace. I have been tempted to tell them “hey, no more campaigning for minority rights, because you’re not a minority anymore. A large number of America’s future doctors and scientists and business leaders are going to have to come from the hispanic population. Are you going to embrace the ideals of western civilization that have worked or the Marxist mutterings of La Raza? One will lead to happiness and the other to misery. It’s up to you. What makes you think this is going to happen? Especially in the hard sciences and among the tough business disciplines and lettered specialties (MD, RN, CPA, CFA,) is this what you see happening?

Maybe this will be a wake up call to more people to shut down the border. Contrary to many on this thread I think there is a certain level of immigration that will make assimilation impossible. Once hispanic speaking illegal immigrants are the minority, it seems to me there is little incentive to assimilate.
