Local attorney shows support for friend with cancer

When it comes to being a good friend, Hillsboro attorney Lisa Champion will go to just about any length-even completely bald.

Champion, 47, shaved off her locks to show support for a close friend who was recently diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

"Like many cancer patients going through chemo, she was really depressed about losing her hair," Champion said. "So I said, 'It's just hair and I'm going to shave mine off too and we can grow it back together.' It made her really happy."

Now there's a true friend.

If I recall Britney Spears shaved her head because of an aunt who had undergone chemo (or died from cancer?).

I thought Britney shaved because she’s nuts.

She definitely IS nuts. At the time, though, if I recall, she gave a reason to the press for shaving her head. Probably was embarrassed (or goaded by her agent, to save face).

Mr G volunteered to shave his head when I lost my hair. I asked him to please not do it. It would only depress me seeing him bald since he has a head full of beautiful curly white hair... and I didn’t have to look at myself!

I chose not to lose my hair, I cut it short as soon as I knew it would be falling out, (I used to be able to sit on my hair) and when it started to fall out, I had Mr G help me shave my head. It gave me a sense of taking on the cancer, instead of being a victim.

My grandaughter, at age 5 drew me a picture. She said “I didn’t give you any hair, since you ran out of it.”

By the way, it is back now, and a new lovely color.

I thought she shaved because she was trying to beat a hair folicle drug test. Either that or she wanted the drapes to match the carpet.
