Georgia calls back troops from Iraq amid fighting

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — Georgia's president says the country is calling home its troops from Iraq amid heavy fighting in the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

Georgia has 2,000 troops serving with the coalition forces in Iraq, making it the third-largest contributor after the United States and Britain.

But Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told CNN television Friday the troops would return urgently to Georgia after fighting erupted in South Ossetia.

"One brigade of Georgian forces is in Iraq and we are calling it home tomorrow," Saakashvili said in the interview.

Georgian defense officials could not be reached for further details.

Yes, just as I hoped for. These guys have gained on the ground experience in Iraq on anti-guerilla warfare. Now they’ll apply it to the Russian-backed rebels. Godspeed!

They need them on home soil with all their equipment NOW.

I hope our military air transport has enough assets to make this happen in 24 hours, and I hope we allow the Georgians to use it.

Russia apparently took out the bulk of their air force today. They can't go up against them alone.

Frank Marshall Davis

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army
AIM Report | By Cliff Kincaid | April 30, 2008

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA, wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

Russia will back down in less than 3 days.

This is a fight they don’t want to have.

They are indeed battle-tested. Combat experience is always a plus in a new fight.

Of course, what Russia is doing is showing that Europe is hypocritical about Osseta compared to Kosovo...so there probably won't be a big fight (but who knows how things will develop).

Tough times for our Georgian allies, though.

Can’t blame them. They are looking at the potential for a total overrun of their country.

Putin and his lackeys are involved in a sort of, modern Sudetenland gambit. Using a few ethnic Russians who want to seperate from Gerogia as a pretext to potentially gobble up the whole country.
