AS I write, Russian tanks grind into a brave and isolated democratic state.
Assuming that the world's attention would focus on Beijing, Moscow stage-managed an elaborate act of aggression against Georgia.
But the world has changed since Soviet tanks rolled unchallenged into Afghanistan at Christmastime 29 years ago. Global communications now spotlight aggression instantly. remainder of article at website

Russia wants to demonstrate that we can throw our allies under the bus for the “greater good”.
Hope the POTUS does the right thing and not go along with the flow to make Russia happy...
What’s the best running blog on the action there?
That is it(!), Bush should have thrown down his “Binokulars” and stormed over to that little blank faced punk and given him the Texas slamdown. What did we get, nuthin! What do our allies get?
A cold Chill down their spine that they are REALLY alone now.
What does Georgia get? Dead citizns, a smashed country and their troops complimentary peanuts on the flight back home from Afghanistan and Iraq. Thanks fellows, don’t let the door hit yah in the a$$ on tha way out.
Encapsulated: “I guess the Soviets — sorry, Russians — want another Vietnam — sorry, Afghanistan — by invading Poland — sorry, Georgia.”
Classic.
As for me, I ask: Where’s Charlie Wilson when you need him?
A good piece by Ralph Peters and I believe he knows what he’s talking about. It doesn’t look good for the Georgians but maybe they can deliver that surprise beating to the Russians.
I like Sen. McCain’s response to this inavasion: immediate withdrawal, emergency UN security council meet; and NATO meet.
NATO should immediately approve Georgia’s membership apps ASAP, with all benefits to be retroactively granted. See how that plays with Vladimir Putative.

Early reports suggest Georgia did not give us a headsup on any of this - That means they have to deal with the consequences in the short run -
This isn't a game bud -
Esp. now during the "One world , One Dream" party, jealous?
What?
What a bunch of animals!
The fact is, Bush won't even stop his own country from being balkanized by millions entering illegally.
I wonder if most of the EuroLibTards still see us as their greatest threat. If we stay out of this the Russians better mind their business when we do what needs to be done to Iran.
Wish I knew.
Agreed, he spoke up right away with a reasonable course of action. I really doubt the UN will effective though, they’ll probably side with Russia.
C’mon. If the Russians wanted to nuke Europe with ballistic missile, all they’d have to do is take down the ABM radar in the Czech Republic. This they could do with a relatively short-range cruise missle attack. And if they didn’t want to be fancy about it, they could just ‘saturate’ the defenses with more missiles than the ABM system could shoot at. (there’s only a small number of interceptors).
The ABM system is oriented toward Iranian ballistic missiles. Putin’s bluster is more about driving a wedge between Poland & the US.
Go for it Georgia! I pray those good U.S. soldiers trained you well, for the long haul. Pray for all of your safety, perseverence, the will to adapt and overcome, forward Georgians, Russia has demonstrated that you will not be free if they can help it.
go back to the DU underground little lady.
