McCain, Obama Respond to Scenario Out of First Level of Ghost Recon
NRO ^ | 8/10/08 | John Geraghty

Obama's first statement on what is, effectively, a Russian invasion of Georgia, paraphrased: "War is bad."

Obama's second statement on what is, effectively, a Russian invasion of Georgia, paraphrased: "Russian invasions are bad."

McCain's first statement on what is, effectively, a Russian invasion of Georgia, paraphrased: "Put those tanks in reverse, Putin." ...

(I'm not kidding in the headline about the odd similarity to Tom Clancy's original Ghost Recon game, which had U.S. special forces secretly going into... T'bilisi, Georgia to deal with Russian invasion forces backed by ultra-nationalist hardliners. The "future date" of the 2001 game was... August 2008.)

The McCain camp notes that the Obama's campaign's reaction echoes the Russian government, criticizing one of McCain's top advisers Randy Scheunemann, who was previously a lobbyist for the Georgian government. Which makes him evil, because we all know all lobbyists are evil, even if you're lobbying for a democracy and U.S. ally on the doorstep of the Russian bear.

I’ve decided that I’ve got to reinstall and play ghost recon. I know I’ve got the CDs floating around here somewhere.

Now I have to re-read it.

Thank goodness it wasn’t a Joel Rosenberg novel, i’d really be scared.

Ditto. My only gripe with it was that I'd expect a spec ops unit to carry more ammo than you were allowed in it.

Life imitates art! I wonder if the Russians read Ghost Recon.

Most of the post on this crisis are pitiful.

Just like Bush who continues to party at the Olympics y'all are busy reading fiction and playing with your Video games while the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Don't you folks realize that this is analogous to Hitler's annexation of Czechoslovakia in 1938, and if we don't stop the Soviets, yes Soviets, then were going to have the same results the befell the west in 1939 only a few years from now!

Bush should get his assets out of Beijing and back here to the USA or airspace that we control, and he should once airborne and beyond the range to Red Chinese air defenses order that our Minutemen missiles be put back on Russian targets and that the Russian Military assigned to the Pentagon, yes children they have their people in our war room, be denied access just like in “Dr. Strangelove”

Winston Churchill once described Russia as a large bear that wondered around bumping into things and when it didn't hit something that was hard it would just keep on pushing. Well we have to stop the Russian bear right now or else you folks should put away “Ghost Recon” and get out your old VHS tapes of “Red Dawn”...oh thats right its now available on DVD.

My tagline is also from Winnie!

If I remember right “Sword Point” was about a USSR invasion of Iran. The US intervened and had to fight the Russians and Iranians. Iran was developing a tactical nuke at the same time and planning to stop the Great and Little Satan. It was a interesting read. But my favorite book by Harold Coyle was the classic “Team Yankee”.

The USA needs to take a very strong stand. I agree that the President should leave the games and get back to Washington to underscore the seriousness of the situation.

Lighten up.

There is nothing YOU can do about the world going to hell in a handbasket.

However YOU can install Ghost Recon and pretend like there's something you can do.

If I had done that forty years ago when the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia we would never have nominated and twice elected Ronald Reagan President!

Everyone on this site should email Vice President Cheney about this crisis at vice_president@whitehouse.gov. Ask that the President turn this into a direct Russian-American confrontation just like the Cuban Missile Crisis and Berlin crises. Only then will the Russian back down and remove their troops from Georgia. If we don't then expect them to be in Armenia next and oil rich Azerbaijan after that. And then watch what you pay at the pump for gasoline! Remember Putin owns Lukoil, Russia's Exxon-Mobil, and he wants nothing more than to control the oil resources of the world. In fact, our greatest threat to Iraq lies not from Iran but from Russia who will seek to annex the both of them. And the Russians aren't afraid of Muslim extremist as they proved in Chechnya! They'll put their boots over their necks as they kneel to pray in their mosque!

You can also fax GW in the whitehouse at 202-456-2461 or leave a voice message at 202-456-1111. If you have TDDY you can key them an appeal through 202-456-6213. They also list an email address of comments@whitehouse.gov. The Whitehouse contact web page is: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/.

Remember that Edmund Burke once said “All that is necessary for tyranny to triumph is for good men to do nothing!”

Playing your video game is the same as doing nothing.
