RUSSIA is preparing to deploy 9000 troops to bolster its forces inside the separatist Georgian region of Abkhazia, reports say.
"The group is based on a subdivision of paratroopers. It consists of more than 9,000 troops and more than 350 armoured vehicles,'' Alexander Novitsky, a spokesman for Russia's peacekeeping forces in Abkhazia, was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying.
"The strengthening of the peacekeeping force is aimed at ruling out a repetition of the situation Russian peacekeepers faced in Tskhinvali," Mr Novitsky was quoted as saying.
Tskhinvali is the capital of South Ossetia, another breakaway region of Georgia where Russian forces are now in control after a failed military operation by Georgia to re-assert government control.
"Our troops have to defend ... civilians and avert a humanitarian catastrophe," he said.
A 1994 ceasefire agreement following a war in which Georgian troops were forced out of Abkhazia allows Russia to have 3000 peacekeepers there, although it has deployed only about 2500 until recently.
Photographers and cameramen in Abkhazia say that for the past two nights, Russian cargo planes have been flying troops and armour into the Black Sea territory which, like South Ossetia, has often said it wants to be part of Russia.

as hard as it may sound but maybe it´s time for Saakashvili to wave the white flag. he gambled on the wrong horse (EU and US) and he lost. i don´t think it´s worth more deaths because georgia has no chance to win this on their own.
this stats are from a bbc report so i can not say if they are 100% true but it clearly shows that georgia has not a single chance against russian military.

i´m shure that there are countries out there which would grant him asylum if this would end this conflict. but a solution has to be found soon or many more innocent people will die for “nothing” in the future.

This is all about Russian control of Caspian oil. Putin could care less about fake Russian citizens or the civilian casualties he’s inflicting then blaming it on the Georgians.

Yes there were shooting to each other. Osetians shot on Georgians and Georgians shot on Tskhinval form hieghts around of city.
Saakashvilli tells that Osetians provoked him? Surely:) But he was so stupid that gave in. Hence I conclude he is the political leader as gullible as child. Do you believe it? I do not.
Nevertheless his troops committed the massacre in Tskhinval on Aug 08. So he is responsible of it as the person who gave teh order to attack. About 2000 died majority of them Russian citizens. Russia won’t allow to massacre her citizens. Gergia and it spresident will pay for it. Dearly.

58 Army is the “full allert army”. It is like 101 airborn division. This army always ready to fight. FYI third or so of Russian army is full alert troops.
As I see it, the Georgians started this show, and whether or not they were provoked, flattening a city full of civilians with rocket artillery, killing 2000 people, wasnt the way to react to that provocation.
This, coupled with the fact that they killed Russian troops in this attack, is, IMO more than enough provocation, IMO, for the Russians to completely flatten Georgia, going by their past record.

What really gets my goat, is that after doing all this, this Sakashvili runs to the US, and appears on TV demanding the US to expend its men and materiel in an unncessary war, brought on by his own rashness.
The other thing I dont understand is, why does he appear on TV with an EU flag in the background. Georgia is no member of the EU- is Sakashvili childish enough to imagine that he can escape the Bear by pretending hes an EU member?

Also you can't blame Georgians because one of them turned out to be Stalin. Stalin was a traitor to Georgia, as were all the other Bolsheviks from the various ethnic groups. Stalin had the Bolshevik Armies invade the true Georgia (Democratic Republic of Georgia 1918-21) in 1921.

Stalin is still revered by Russians, and it is Putin who is reviving Soviet ideology and symbolism. Putin is the worthy successor to Stalin, and just like Stalin, Putin crushes the true, free Georgians.

BTW it wasn’t Stalin alone who committed the crimes. The previous and following General Secretaries of the Communist Party, among them Russians, Ukranians etc. were also mass murders. Also who carried out the crimes? Commies from all ethnicities and nations... among them also ethnic Russians.
How do you think we won World War 2? Russia has no right to invade Georgian territory. Georgia was being attacked and they had no choice but to attack back. The Russians are the ones responsible and the ones who had this planned. They would have done this eventually no matter what.

Germans ELECTED Adolf Hitler on free elections in 1933. Russian did NEVER elected Josef Stalin on free elections. Do you see the difference?
