And Bush’s statement to them in 2005, in a speech applauded by thousands of Georgian’s that America would stand with them was just crap.

I’m dissapointed in this. Regardless of what happened in South Ossetia, this is uncalled for.

To be fair about it, there wasn’t much we could do friday or saturday, this was a blitz of quick and large proportions.

It's not over yet. We are flying their forces back on our aircraft. My guess is they will offload with a lot of...extra equipment. At least that is my hope.

In addition, the strong statements being made by Bush and Cheney are going to have to have something behind them...what we are not sur eof yet. But they cannot make those types of statements internationally without backing thm up somehow.

The Ukraine is already taking steps as well.

This is not over yet...but things do look bleak for Georgia right now.

Logistically, if you look at a map, from the outset there is very little other way it could look militarily. We or anyone else would be hard pressed to literally fight our way in there.

But we can have an impact and we need to make it clear that that impact will hurt the Russians..

What President GWB said wasn't crap - That is complete and utter garbage from a keyboard commando who's as$ will very likely never be on the line (in any of this).

Reality is bud, there are no good direct options for us (in the short run on this one, outside of all out war...and that ain't a good option).

Furthermore, Georgia, by all OSINT, did not give any heads-up to what they were looking to pull off here, when they took action - That puts them in the spot of having to deal with any and all consequences (again, in the short run).

Is the Bear looking to now have a 'show of force'.....Obviously. Do we stand by the people of Georgia. Of course we do. But that plays out over months...not days....
