It’s not just about sex. It’s about trust and honesty and doing the right thing.

If he were actually still a force in politics, I might be interested too. But he's a has been. He was finished before this all came out. I honestly don't understand the interest.

Q: How can you tell if Edwards is lying?

A. Because his lying love lips are moving.

He can stuff a lot of lies into that 1% loophole.

[A lot of attorneys lie for their living, especially the Edwards-types, that’s why they are very careful to speak words that can be twisted into a completely alternate meaning sometime in the future if the need arises.]

I take exception to that comment. What is “a lot”?

First, attorneys do not Testify. In fact, mostly they ask questions of witnesses. The penalty for lying is disbarrment (ask Billy Jeff) and the same applies when an attorney plays loose with the truth.

I am not saying that no attorney lies but the percentage is very low. Too much to lose.

I'm not defending his behavior. I just hate reading in the news all the time about some politician screwing around. Democrat or Republican, I don't care who they fool around with. I don't even care that they lie and deny these relationships, because most married men would do the same thing regardless of their political affiliations. Politicians have always screwed around, but in the old days nobody talked about it. Now it's major news. It shouldn't be.

And I didn't read the story and haven't been following it because I could care less about who anybody is screwing. I just had the urge to gripe when I saw the title.

Financial crimes for one thing. And he was rumored to be considered for AG. I think that matters.

If you haven’t read the story, then you wouldn’t understand why people would be upset. Have you ever cheated on your wife? Do you believe cheating is okay?

Who cares? When are we going to get over our fascination with who people are having sex with?

As before,
It is not their “Love Life” that is our concern

It is their lying about it repeatedly, and publically,
while asking us to believe he should be
the next president of the USA

It is their being dishonorable toward their Oath of Marriage
When they ask us to believe they will be honorable
in their Oath of the President of the USA.

These are not trivial issues.

When was Elizabeth diagnosed with cancer?

According to this:

On November 3, 2004, the day Kerry conceded defeat in the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election, Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer. She later revealed that she discovered a lump in her breast while on a campaign stop in Kenosha, Wisconsin a few weeks earlier.

At a March 22, 2007 press conference, John and Elizabeth Edwards announced that her cancer had returned, and that his campaign for the Presidency was continuing at full steam. They said that she is asymptomatic, and that she expects to continue actively campaigning while undergoing treatment. Her doctor, Dr. Lisa Carey of the University of North Carolina's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, described the diagnosis as stage IV (metastatic) breast cancer with a spot in her rib and possibly her lung. In a March 25 interview on 60 Minutes, Edwards said that there was also a spot in her hip found on her bone scan. The Edwardses and Dr. Carey stressed that the cancer is not curable, but is treatable.

It is my understanding she is terminally ill with a five-year chance of survival close to nil.

Perfect, except you forgot one thing. Like Jesse Jackson about his transgression - You must say you made a mistake.
In today’s world, it seems people say oh, you are human, it is okay if it was only a mistake. UGH

There is smart and there is wise. You're comments make you sound very smart...almost boardering on anserine intelligence.

Nobody cares who he's fooling around with, we care whether he has any integrity and enough honesty to represent us and our country. Obviously he doesn't, that's why you should care!

the questions are just tests for each candidate's honesty and ability to handle pressure. he failed.

I agree that Edwards is sort of a has been and not so newsworthy EXCEPT he has been touted as a VP nominee.

I also think this whole story is very important in regards to journalism. The obvious, lock step determination by every part of the main stream media (newpapers, newsmagazines, television, and radio) to ignore this story - leaving it to the NATIONAL ENQUIRER to break the story - is a damning story for our national press. Also germane is their dedicated snooping in re: McCain’s “affair,” bathroom foot taps, any “scandal” touching a Republican. Their bias is so demonstrable it can no longer be questioned.

“Let me know how that statement works out for you when you say it to your spouse after you're caught having an affair.”

I don't fool around on my wife, but if I did that would be our business, no one else's. I must say though that before I got married you know what my father told me? He told me never to fool around on my wife. Those few moments of pleasure could ruin a marriage and hurt any children we have and so on. But he also said that if I ever did slip I should never tell her about it. I should break it off as soon as I come to my senses (or sober up) and even if I feel guilty as heck and want to come clean I should keep in mind that while honesty is almost always the best policy, this is an exception. He said that is one area where the truth would only cause pain and probably irreparable damage to the relationship even if it was years after the fact. A woman can never just forgive and forget that. He said that's one thing you should take to the grave with you, and if you get caught in the act you should lie like hell and tell her her eyes were deceiving her. Just never admit it. Make a commitment not to do it and stick to that commitment, but if you do slip, keep it a secret for the rest of your life.

Maybe my dad gave me bad advice. He's no creep, mind you. He's good decent man who has done a lot of good in his life. He started a clinic for poor people and still donates a lot of his time free of charge. He's teaches Sunday school and has given a fortune to his church. As far as I know he never cheated on my mother. Maybe the advice he gave was bad, but I guarantee you that a lot of good people feel pretty much the same way he does about this issue and would lie about cheating on their wives even if they were otherwise honest men. Even if they tell you that they'd never lie, most would lie about this when it came right down to it. If you are a man and you tell yourself you'd never lie about this, you probably would if you slipped and were questioned about it. If a man is weak and cheats, he doesn't want his wife to know about it for so many reasons. He doesn't want his children to know about it. It's only going to hurt them, and personally, I wouldn't hold it against another man if he lied about an affair. I'd probably do the same if I ever slipped and was questioned about it, as would most men.
