YORK, Pennsylvania (AFP) Republican White House hopeful John McCain Tuesday stepped up a fusillade against Russian "aggression" and declared that today, "we are all Georgians."
Addressing voters in Pennsylvania, McCain said he had spoken by telephone earlier with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who he said wanted to thank the American people for their support.
"I told him that I know I speak for every American when I say to him, today, we are all Georgians," said the Republican, a hardliner against Russia who wants the mighty nation expelled from the Group of Eight club.

Russia has been playing games in this region for sometime trying to provoke Georgia. Here is a story going back to 2007.

Thats funny.
I thought we were all “Kosovars”.
You better put some ice on that Vladdy.
McCain was mostly my president, but this really took my heart and gave it to him.
(Sarcasm) Now I really feel confused, I thought I was an American! (/Sarcasm)
Go somewhere else to worship Putin. I, and many, if not most Freepers disagree with the US policy on Kosovo, but this does not take one inch away from Georgia’s rights.
Interesting that next to the article “McCain: We Are All Georgians Now” is a pictures of Obama, lol.
McCain is 100% right. This is a President.
Stupid statement. While I support Georgia, I am an American and only an American, not a Georgian and not a Berliner.
McCain was never my guy but to tell the truth I’d feel better if he were in the White House right now.
“(Sarcasm) Now I really feel confused, I thought I was an American! (/Sarcasm)”
Me, too.
At leasst, he said it CORRECTLY and in English.
JFK screwed it up when he said similar thing about being a Berliner.
“Ich bin EIN Berliner,” he says.
Translation: I am a jelly donut.
I just happened to catch this on CNN. After folks started cheering and giving McCain a standing ovation in response to his statements on how this conflict highlight our need for energy independence, CNN cut away and read a statement from Obama that the anchor “had just recieved on my blackberry”.
Fox did the same thing.
I just happened to catch this live on CNN. Oh come on. It’s a statement of solidarity, not of rejecting your own country. I proudly chime in with McCain: “I am a Georgian.”
I’ve got issues with McCain domestically, but in foreign policy and specifically dealing with thugs he’s the anti-obama.
“My point is we live in a dangerous world,” he said at the town hall meeting, stressing his frequent visits to Georgia, although he again mispronounced Saakashvili’s name.”
Well there you go, he has trouble pronouncing an east european name. That could be forgiven if he had..... say an uncle who helped liberate the death camps.
So McCain proclaims that we’re all Georgians and Osama asks “should I use a driver or a 2 iron?”
Yeah, ditto.
"Ich bin Berliner." would only mean that you are citizen of Berlin, however this is clumsy way of expressing it. Kennedy said it correctly, although by that way leaving room for the jelly donut interpretation.
There is simply no question whatsoever that McCain is the right guy for crisis like this.
Obama cannot possibly look like anyone a reasonable American would trust in power when such events occur.
He already is stumbling over this crisis, struggling for the right words.
With McCain, it is natural.
