It has the makings of international intrigue. Less than two weeks before the Democratic National Convention a man has been found dead in a Denver hotel room with a container of what authorities initially suspect to be the deadly poison cyanide.
Adding to the intrigue is that the dead man, Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, appears to be from outside the U.S. No passport was found on Dirie, who is believed to have entered the country from Canada.
A large container of a white powdery substance was found in the man's room on the fourth floor of the Burnsley Hotel at 10th and Grant.
Tests are now being done by the Denver Police Crime Lab to determine exactly what the substance is. The tests could take days.
It is not clear if the man died from the substance or some other cause.
Denver police are leading the investigation of the man's death. The FBI and other governmental agencies, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, are assisting in the probe. Hazardous materials assistance has included the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado National Guard.
FBI Special Agent in Charge James Davis told CBS 4 that nothing so far has been found to link the case to terrorism or the coming convention.
The investigation is continuing.

With all of the flakes coming to the Twin Cities for the RNC at the end of the month, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if something like this occurs here, too.
To: Scarpetta
Saleman Abdirahman Dirie is probably a Somali or of Somali ancestry.

Tests are now being done by the Denver Police Crime Lab to determine exactly what the substance is. The tests could take days. They ALWAYS say this. It really annoys me. What they are really saying is, "We do not want to talk about it for a few days and by then, you morons will have forgotten all about it."
FTIR~ 20 minutes. GC/MS~2 hours, IF that. HPLC, be generous, a few hours.
Not days. I would think a crime lab would be at least a little motivated.

nothing so far has been found to link the case to terrorism If this doesn't fit the 'duck' analogy, nothing does. How about 3 points making a staight line? (Mulsim, poision, convention)

Ruled out the coca and poppy products? Cops have field test kits for those. So if they don't yet know what is for certain, and suspect cyanide, it's very likely not those. Or crystal meth either.
Cyanide is said to have a bitter almond taste and odor, although some people can't smell or taste it, depending on their genetics. Surely someone smelled that smell which is why they "suspect" cyanide.

Davis told CBS 4 that nothing so far has been found to link the case to terrorism or the coming convention. These FBI guys come at it from the wrong direction. When you have a Muzzie and cyanide, you assume terrorism unless facts prove otherwise.
To: El Gato
Adding on to your post.
A presumptive test at the scene and a sample sent to the lab.
The lab results analyze the sample(s) for an accurate determination
and confirmation.

suspect to be the deadly poison cyanide. Takes two seconds to see the Prussian blue color in the test. Someone is not exactly telling the whole story.

I would like to know just what sort of cyanide they are talking about. I used to work with sodium cyanide in my silver-plating shop. Potassium cyanide is the stuff they used to execute murderers with back in the days before the comfort of the criminal became the paramount concern of our penal systems.

Terrorism is an impossibility in any of these incidents. All of them arise from bad childhoods and societal deprivation and repression and George Bush’s malevolent influence.
