The Pickens Profile You Haven’t Read
Newsweek ^ | 8/9/2008 | Karen Breslau

T. Boone has re-invented himself as a green wildcatter. Can he finish what Al Gore started?

T. Boone Pickens can't read his lines. Squinting at his teleprompter, he is posing in front of a mile-long ribbon of wind turbines, churning against an endless Texas sky. Pickens is in Sweetwater, a town of 12,000 that bills itself as the nation's wind-energy capital, to shoot a commercial urging Americans to put themselves on a new energy diet: cutting out imported oil—which costs $700 billion a year—in favor of domestically produced sources such as wind and natural gas. "Our dependence on foreign oil means that we are buying from our enemies," he drawls into the camera, veering from the script. At this, the director walks onto the set, frowning his disapproval. "Don't want me to say 'enemies', huh?" Pickens deadpans as he drops his head in mock shame and scuffs his cowboy boot in the dirt. "How 'bout 'Some friends and a few a––holes?' That better?"...

If he is “pro everything” to get us off foreign oil (nuclear, off-shore drilling , etc.) why the hell is he hanging out with Democrats?

Pickens is gong to pick the low hanging fruit. He’s going to get in the way of the billions of dollars that will be spent trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Wind power still needs a backup conventional power source when the wind doesn’t blow and Pickens isn’t talking about that. He’ll take all the government grants he can, suck in “green venture cash” create a lot of buzz and largely accomplish nothing but he will make himself a lot of money when he unloads this albatross on the stupid public.

Was T.Boone always a lying, cheating crook or has he just now become one?

Yep. Or every home will need a backup battery the size of an SUV to carry the home until the backup power supply get online. No one's talking about that, either.

That's as good an explanation as I've heard any where. Every time I hear his chimerical on the radio I wondered, "What's his angle?" 'Cause fellows like that are not that civic minded.

Yup! And how about replacing all the seats and cargo area with batteries to run the electric engines to fly.

He is a life long Republican supporter.

He is not the first Republican to lose his marbles. Heard recently that 12% of Republicans are voting for Obama.

But Pickens when asked said he’d never vote Dem.

I read that 12% too. Sick! White guilt?? I was just over at Relpolitics looking at the poll numbers and Indiana which went +20 for Pres Bush in 2004 is now 0.5+ for Obama. I am really worried.

Pickens, God love him, is an old school Texas salesman and operator. If you want “green” he’ll sell you green. If you want wind, he’ll sell you wind, want water? Hell, he’ll sell you that too - with a good old slap on the back to go with it.

All he needs is the Gov’t to build for him a new transmission system to transport all this wonderful wind energy, and watch the billions start rolling in. Beautiful! I wish I had his balls!
